Steve and I looked at a cute place in Greenwood Lake, NY today, several actually. One in particular we really liked, though it could stand to be just a bit bigger (it's 900 square feet, but in all fairness, it does utilize the space well). We're trying to put things into perspective and I like lists, so here's the pros and cons.

The pros about the place:
  • Updated kitchen, with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops
  • Whirlpool bathtub
  • 2 bedrooms, with a nice, large master bedroom
  • Hardwood floors
  • Electric heat with separate heat zones for each room
  • Electric fireplace
  • Thermal-windows
  • Unfinished basement
  • 3-tiered patios with an outdoor fireplace
  • View of the lake and mountains
  • Super close to NYRF
The cons:
  • Could be bigger
  • About an hour's drive from both of our jobs
  • Decent amount of yardwork to maintain the patios
  • We handle snow removal of the property
  • Well-water
  • Septic system
  • Unfinished basement has partially dirt floor
  • Hilly area (think Kim's former Mount Doom just shorter drive)
Obviously, there's more pros than cons. For the price, the place is really a steal. Neither of us are too thrilled with the commute it would be to both our jobs, but with the money we'd be saving elsewhere, I don't think it would kill us too badly in gas, and on my part, I know I've made it from my store to Tammy & Walter's (in Warwick) in less than an hour, so I'm pretty sure I could make it to Greenwood Lake in less time. It is kinda hilly and hills + snow/ice scare the ever-lovin' hell out of me, but if the roads are decently maintained, I'm willing to deal. The patios would be covered in leaves in the fall, but I guess raking never killed anyone, and if we're really lazy, leaf-blowers are fun. But the outdoor space is super, super attractive to us. We'd love to have the ability to entertain during the warmer months and that outdoor space would really be perfect. The interior wouldn't really lend itself to big get-togethers, but that's fine, as long as we have somewhere to entertain. :)

The kitchen has a great look to it, and the stainless steel appliances are purdy. Fridge, 5-burner electric stove, and dishwasher. No microwave, but we'd bring mine. Outlets all over the damn place, and a huge amount of cabinet space with the ability to overhead store things as well. The bathroom looks like it could be my happy place. I've always wanted a nice, deep tub that I can take baths in and put all my Lush stuff to good and proper use.

All in all, we both really like the place, but as it's the first place we've seriously taken a look at, we're trying not to jump all over this one. But it's damn hard.

So. My question to you folks is this: Anyone know anything about the area? Pros/cons?

[EDIT: This place is also it's own house!]
