Xiao Chuan has contracted THE PLAGUE.
Su Su is in love with him and won't hear of any of this "contagious" nonsense. When Xiao Chuan's companions leave him for dead, Su Su slips away from the party, BUSTS INTO THE DEATH ROOM, and single-handedly drags his ass to a safe place to be his personal nurse. Keep in mind HE HAS THE FUCKING PLAGUE. And she just does not give a shit.
IT'S SO PRETTY AND SWEET, RIGHT? YOU SHIP IT, RIGHT?
He's all "go away, YOU'LL GET THE FUCKING PLAGUE" and she's all "no way, I love you so much I will stay by your side and rub your back when you vomit (FROM THE PLAGUE) and even if I die I won't regret being with you (WHILE YOU ARE EXPIRING FROM THE PLAGUE)."
He vows that if he survives, they'll get married -- and then they do this heartbreaking thing where they not-quite-hug and she rests her cheek on his hand and he leans into her and closes his eyes like she's the only thing holding him up. WIBBLE.
Su Su finds a doctor (actually, she tries ten doctors but they all run away... BECAUSE HE HAS THE FUCKING PLAGUE) and through some magical medicine, he cures Xiao Chuan.
I should point out that, technically, he's their Eleventh Doctor. Ha!
He makes a full recovery under her doe eyes. It's extremely cute. My shipper heart does flips.
He makes good on his promise...
...and it's full of adorable giddiness and PURE CUTE because he's all "where I come from, men propose with rings!" and you can tell she's totally charmed by his weird futuristic ways.
THEN SHE GETS THE PLAGUE AND DIES.
Wait, let me back up. Su Su collapses, and the doctor explains that she caught the plague from him a long time ago, but the doctor only had enough magical life-saving medicine for one person, and Su Su chose to save Xiao Chuan instead of herself.
All those sweet bedside scenes? WERE ACTUALLY HER PROLONGED SUICIDE.
Xiao Chuan tells her she can't die, they aren't married yet. JESUS CHRIST. IT'S LIKE THEY WERE TRYING TO DESTROY EVERY OUNCE OF HAPPINESS IN MY BODY. princess_dexter, if you're reading this, I think we've topped you-know-what for the most tragic proposal ever.
She makes him swear to find another woman and be happy, etc etc, and she dies in his arms... and there's a long, painful moment where you see it register on his face that she's dead.
