Disclaimer: I don't own them. If I did, I wouldn't be as broke as I am now.
A/N: I didn't actually bother to check the dates of all the events I mentioned in the fic, so if there are discrepancies, well, they'll just remain there. The fic is unbeta-ed, as per my usual laziness.

People always say that when your eyelid twitches, it’s a bad sign. Koki’s eyelid has been twitching for the whole morning now.
“Maybe you should put some ice on it,” Nakamaru suggests helpfully, with a hint of a smile at the corners of his lips.
Koki doesn’t say anything. Then he locks Nakamaru’s head with one arm. He’s grinning. Nakamaru always manages to say the silliest things
Then Yamashita walks in. And Koki realises why his eyelid has been twitching.
“Where’s Jin?” The leader of NEWS demands.
Nakamaru looks unsure. He too, like Koki, can tell that there is something akin to anger lacing the other man’s tone.
Koki answers first. Only it’s not really an answer. He doesn’t think Yamashita needs to know that Akanishi is with Kame. “What brings you to the jimusho? I heard you had an interview on.” He asks, as though he’s interested.
“Never mind that,” Yamashita interrupts impatiently. “I want to see Jin. Where is he?”
Koki casts his mind about for a way to stall for time. But then his efforts are wasted when Junno walks in and says, “Akanishi and Kamenashi sent me over from the recording room. They asked if you guys…”
The rest of what Junno was saying is lost on everyone else when Yamashita dashes from the room.
Nakamaru catches Koki’s eye. Junno looks lost, as per usual. Koki gets up and rushes after Yamashita.
The recording room isn’t far away. When he pushes the door open, three men stand in the room. Yamashita looks accusing, Akanishi confused and Kame trapped. No one even looks up at Koki.
“This is the way you’d have me find out?” Yamashita finally says. His tone is scathing. “You told me you wanted nothing more to do with him.”
Kame finally looks up when he hears that. And then averts his gaze away from Akanishi’s.
Akanishi looks guilty, but says nothing.
“This guy is only concerned with himself. You said it too. Only caring about his image. His work comes before everything. Even you!”
“It’s not like that!” Akanishi finally says.
Kame looks like he wants nothing more than to be out of the room.
“Kazu is not like that. We misunderstood him. I misunderstood him.”
Yamashita doesn’t stop looking furious. “What makes you think the Kamenashi you think you know now is the real one? Knowing that, you’d still hurt me for him?” Yamashita sounds betrayed and incredulous. He is standing in front of Akanishi, their faces close enough to touch. “You were the one who came to me, Jin. You want me, not him.” Yamashita holds Akanishi and kisses him.
Koki clenches his fist. The only reason he doesn’t hurt anyone is because Kame stumbles in his hurry to get out of the room. His eyes flicker up at Koki as he passes. But that hardly stops him from hurrying out. The sound of Kame leaving causes Akanishi to push Yamashita away.
“Kazu!” he calls out after Kame, starting to chase after him, only to have Yamashita catch his hand and daring him to leave.
Koki’s had enough of this. He walks over to Akanishi and Yamashita. He addresses only Akanishi. If he doesn’t say this now, he won’t ever have the chance to make it achieve its full intended effect.
“If you let him leave like this, you’re letting him go forever. I’m not generous enough to give him up again.”
Koki lets his gaze meet Yamashita’s. He’s never had any dealings with the other man before, but right then, he feels a deep animosity for this person who he knows has single-handedly been the cause of the hurt Kame and even Akanishi has had to experience for years.
Akanishi hesitates only for a second. Then he jerks his hand out of Yamashita’s grip. “I sorry, Pi. I really do love him after all.”
And then he too, is running out of the door.
Koki is left in the room alone with Yamashita. For some reason, when he sees the expression the other man makes watching Akanishi’s leaving back, he feels his anger at Yamashita evaporate. He knows only too well, that feeling.
He leaves Yamashita in the room.
As he leaves, Nakamaru finally catches up. He searches Koki’s face for something, anything. “Are they…” he begins to say. But something in Koki’s expression must have said it all.
“I saw Kame running out into the rain. Will he-”
“It’s raining?” Koki interrupts.
Nakamaru nods. And Koki finally notices the umbrella in his hand.
Koki smiled grimly. “They’re fine. They will be.” He takes the umbrella from Nakamaru and leaves.
He runs and tries to convince himself that he isn’t a second Yamashita. He is only a brother to Kame. Only when he sees Kame and Akanishi in the rain does he realise what he’s wanted to do all along. There is only one umbrella, after all.
He runs out into the rain, and Kame sees him approaching. “Koki!” Kame exclaims.
Koki gives him a stern look. Never mind the fact that everyone is wet now. “Don’t fall sick again and expect me to look after you. That’s not my job anymore.” He turns to Akanishi, takes the older man’s hand and passes the handle of the open umbrella to him, so that Akanishi is the one shielding Kame from the rain now.
This is the way it should be, Koki tells himself. The significance of the act isn’t lost on anyone.
“Akanishi, I meant what I said,” Koki says seriously. He leaves the umbrella in Akanishi’s hands. Then walks off in the rain without looking back.
Nakamaru is waiting for him inside the building. He hands Koki a towel. Koki doesn’t question, but accepts it with a grateful look. He doesn’t know why the dampness against his cheek is warm, not cold. He buries his face in the towel.
Then he feels Nakamaru’s hand on his shoulder.
When he looks up, he sees the older man’s smiling face. When he looks out again, Akanishi and Kame are no longer standing apart from each other.
There is a constricted feeling in Koki’s chest. But somehow, he thinks things will turn out just fine after all.
