Intro post Ellie Linton

Jun 16, 2007 15:33

Ellie was trudging along the side of the highway, well. Not the side of it, she'd be easily spotted there. She was further to the side, skulking amongst the bushes, it was only a day ago she'd stolen the food from the soldier's bike but her stomach was screaming for more. She hadn't had a decent meal since she was in New Zealand. Before she'd ( Read more... )

Alice hated the lobby, but from time to time she managed to wander down there. New people trickled in on occasion, and she thought it would be nice for them to see a friendly face. She'd arrived with John, and it had done wonders for her adjusting to the Hotel (despite the obvious fact that she'd fallen in love with him). Having someone that you could point to and say that even though you were alone, you knew their name, their story. It helped.

She had her hands in her jeans pocket and was about to round the corner when she heard a girl gasp. Alice looked at her. She had dark hair, and the sort of eyes that said she had things to tell that you'd never find out. Alice's sort of person.

"Hello."

Ellie blinked a few times at the woman. She warily took a step in, eyes never leaving the woman before her. She didn't look like one of the Soldiers, but that didn't mean the woman wasn't a Settler. They were almost as bad, coming and stealing everyone else's homes. Making her friends and family act as their slaves.

"Hi." The sentence short and clipped. There were a million and one things she wanted to ask Alice; 'where am I?', 'who are you?', 'are we both dead?', 'is the War over yet?'

Ellie, however, kept her silence.

Alice noticed that the girl looked a little bit uneasy. She didn't move. She was used to patrons coming into the club with the same look. The girls that gave them lapdances always came back plus a few bruises.

She smiled what she hoped looked like a welcoming smile. "Have you just arrived?"

Ellie hesitantly took a step forwards, this was an adult...she knew inherently that she should trust adults, but the events in the last year...the Soldiers, Major Harvey, the POW camps and even to a certain extent Colonel Findley and the Kiwi soldiers (even though they were the good guys) had managed to hurt her or her friends some how.

"I'll take that as a yes. Where are you coming from?" Alice found a chair and sat down. People that were standing tended to feel a bit more powerful than those who were seated, and the girl still looked skitish.

Ellie was actually beginning to feel like a caged animal, the only buildings she'd spent time in without friends were in deep enemy territory and she'd never liked that.

"Camp 16." Her tone matter-of-fact. In Ellie's opinon, anyone who knew of Camp 16 and it's nature would be rather certain that this would be Ellie Linton...Even her assumed name wouldn't help her.

Alice was used to the Hotel. She'd met a few new guests at the door, but none that seemed quite as nervous as this girl. She was entirely unsure of how she'd react to the fact they were trapped, and she was starting to get nervous.

"Do you know what year it was?"

"What does that matter?" To tell the truth, Ellie wouldn't have even been able to guess at the month let alone the day. It wasn't like they had a calendar handy all the time.

Ellie took a step backwards, she rather felt like she was being interrogated. "I don't know anything, I'm just a kid who's been hiding in the bush since the War began." She attempted one of the tactics the Kiwis had told her.

Alice took a deep breath. It was now or never.

"It does matter, because where I come from, there's no war to speak of. You're at a hotel called Hotel California. I'm from the year 2004. There's... all kinds of people here from all over the world." She figured she'd mention the whole "and we can't leave" bit when she could tell if the girl was going to hit her or not.

Ellie's brow furrowed, 2004? That was...impossible. Right? "1995...I think." At least that was what she remembered when she was in New Zealand. She fidgeted a little on the spot and took another step backwards.

"I was shot again wasn't I? This is a hallucination...or..." she swallowed, "or I'm dead..."

Alice shook her head. "You weren't shot. And you're not dead. There's food in the dining hall you can eat, and a bed for you to sleep in. If that won't convince you you're not dead, I could pinch you, but I don't think you want that. And why would you hallucintate me? I'm boring."

Ellie looked rather relieved when informed that she wasn't dead, even more so when informed that there's a bed here for her. "At the moment, I'd rather like boring. I've had enough adrenaline to last me for the rest of my days..."

"The war?" Alice smiled a tiny bit, aiming for sympathetic and not snide. She pushed up a bit and rang the bell to get the Bellboy's attention. "He's the only bad part about this place."

A small nod, she was still rather wary of this whole situation. It was even worse when the Bellboy appeared from nowhere. It took all her effort not to turn and flee right then. The War would be better than this. "Right..."

Alice shuddered visibly, and murmured her disgust after the Bellboy had left.

"I hate him. He's so creepy." She shook her head. "I'm sorry we're stuck here. And I'm sorry you're here at all."

Ellie visibly relaxed when the Bellboy left, not much but just a little.

Her head shot to Alice, "what do you mean we're stuck here?!"
