Intro post Ellie Linton

Ellie was trudging along the side of the highway, well. Not the side of it, she'd be easily spotted there. She was further to the side, skulking amongst the bushes, it was only a day ago she'd stolen the food from the soldier's bike but her stomach was screaming for more. She hadn't had a decent meal since she was in New Zealand. Before she'd agreed to come back with the others.

She knew she should be keeping a better eye out for patrols, but she was tired and hungry. And for the past year, all she really wanted was her mother. To sit on her lap as if she was five years old again. To be told the War was just a horrible nightmare. To be told that her friends were still alive. That they didn't die for nothing.

Ellie could have kicked herself for not keeping her mind on the current situation. It was the middle of the day, deep in enemy territory and she was going the right way to get killed. That would just be the icing on the cake, the war was coming to an end and to die just before she didn't have to hide all the time?

Once again her attention had wandered, she was just so tired and her knee was playing up again. She barely noticed the road disappear and the Australian bush fade into desert. By the time she was aware of her surroundings it was too late.

She was out in the open.

The Soldiers could pick her off easily and there was no where to hide, nothing she could steal to get her to safety quickly. The only thing she could see was a run down building in the distance. A bit like the Hermit's Hut back in Hell. Only bigger. Much bigger. Why was there a building in the middle of nowhere and where was she? She should be approaching the city…where her mum was being held.

No soldiers were in sight, and with nothing else to aim for she headed towards the building. All she could do was hope it wasn't a trap.

Tired, hungry, travel-stained and war-torn Ellie Linton, teenage guerrilla from Hell slowly opened the door. She was very careful not to make a sound, not until she'd scoped the place out.

Despite all effort, she couldn't hold in the gasp that was on her lips as she saw…the richness of the place. She'd been shot again. Fatal, and this was the afterlife. Such richness? To someone who'd spent the last year fighting in a war, this was the only conclusion she could come to.

Perhaps she'll get to see Homer and Fi and Lee. Kevin and Corrie and Robyn and Chris again…
