Chatty things
I'd almost forgotten LJ was a place for chatty things. Lo, I have become a terse and withdrawn hermit crab. So here's some of the fun things that happened today:

OK, I can't think of anything fun. You see? You see how depressing my life is? Send lipgloss and iPods I should stop making that joke because it ceased to be funny about three million invocations ago but I still laugh.
Not funny, but kind of an amusing thing that did happen today:
Customer: Hello, I'd like to apply for *specific family payment for which you need to have eligible kids*.
Me: OK. *does Proof of Identity procedure*
Me: Oh, have you and your partner recently had a child?
Customer: *laughs* No!
Me: Er...you need to have children to apply for this payment.
Customer: Really?
Me: YES!
What was unsaid: It's the Family Assistance Office. What did you think you were applying for?!
Why I felt bad: Language barriers, man. One day I am going to reform the Australian response to migrant integration. I mean, we have a pack for new parents and seriously they're just handling babies. We have zilch for new migrants. I know that there used to be Migrant Resource Centres but I don't know if they still exist. Worse, I don't know how to *access* these services and I work for the government. *puts on future to-do list*
