Um, I might have spent four hours on Wednesday making my sister watch all of their videos I have bookmarked in an attempt to sway her. I am fighting the good fight over here. The only person I know IRL who likes them is the 8th grade sister of one of my high school friends. So yeah, I am doubling up my efforts.

I seriously love that video. Wait, so all the videos in post one, all the way up to Liam beatboxing in this post don't work? IT'S NOT YOUR COMPUTER. The person's account was taken down! Well, this definitely puts a damper on this entire post. Now I have to find new versions and replace the links. I think I'm going to get on that right now.
I have watched the Zayn eating fruit one like, four times now? I get the sense that that might be too many times but something about little baby Zayn eating fruit is the cutest thing I've ever seen.
I am developing a Zayn PROBLEM. Like, they are all adorable, but he is so ridiculous. I teach teenage boys and he reminds me of one of my very favorites; he is adorable and very sweet and maaaaaaaaaaaybe not the brightest but goofy and good-natured and hilarious and I just kind of want to watch videos of them all making fun of him FOREVER? MAYBE????
I have never seen a band so committed to silly voices, by the way. Jeez.

I started out with a Zayn Problem but now I am desperately involved in a Liam Payne Situation. That is Zayn to a tee! I have such a soft spot for him, like I said, because of the birds video and also he wanted to be an English major and then teacher and I'm just like, sweetheart ohhhhh. If you watch early videos of them, he was so reticent to be goofy, and now he has loosened up and he is committed to being a dork, but not as much as the rest of them even still, in a way? So, like, when he's goofy it is extra precious. Videos where they tease him are the best though. THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO GET HIM TO OPEN UP I THINK. The problem with this band, is that you will think you have a favorite, but then one will start doing something and you're like, huh, never noticed that before and then you get all these FEELINGS. Ha. Basically you are telling me that the headcanon I made up after watching LITERALLY four videos is entirely right. Because I had it in my head FROM JUST YOUR PICTURES that the reason Zayn was so posey and serious is because actually he is vaguely shy only he's obviously not when he's with the boys but I think sometimes he is when it's him and the camera/strangers/whatever. And so there is LOTS OF JUMPING because the other four are such show off dorks and they need him to join in. (Harry less so, I'd say, but not much.) It is definitely wanting him to open up and goof around with themmmmmm. He does love silly voices!

I don't dislike ANY of them. Normally at least ONE of them is off-putting and weird. (Chris Kirkpatrick, I am looking at you.) but they are all cute! UGH STOP IT.
That is exactly what I'm telling you. Basically, I would say Niall and Louis are the most outgoing. Niall is super friendly and he knows everyone and what they do on tour, and makes friends with everyone and everyone loves him and that is so endearing to me. Like, he jams with their band in his free time. I could've put a thousand more Niall videos in here but I stopped myself because I wanted this to be helpful and not a Niall Appreciation Post. And Louis teases them all because he is the oldest and he wants Liam to be less serious and he also wants Zayn to be less serious. I do think Zayn is really shy though. It might just be me, but I get the sense that he had a very different upbringing than the other boys, like maybe the others were more wealthy growing up, so he hasn't done or experienced as much as them. I don't know, I am probably projecting. Ugh, now you are making me have Zayn feelings again and I don't appreciate it

This is the VERY WORST THING YOU COULD DO TO ME, ie, give me a LOT OF SPACE to TELL YOU MY THOUGHTS. Ugh. Stop it. Why. WHY. I HAVE ALL THESE THEORIES ABOUT THINGS. And I'm pretty good at guessing from twitter and interviews about personality (not like, REAL personality I guess, but close enough). Like, what I get from Louis, right, is he's not wacky, he's AGGRESSIVELY wacky, he goes out of his way to be almost off-puttingly silly, but what I get out of that is more a desire for things to go smoothly for everyone else and a natural tendency to draw focus than any desire to hog the camera. It borders right on "Oh no, things might get awkward, I WILL BE WEIRD SO NO ONE NOTICES," rather than "look at meeeeeee." Niall just seems super friendly and gets along with everyone and would talk the ears off a donkey, and Liam seems... sensible is the wrong word, but he's certainly less shrill and more likely to answer a a question during an interview while other boys bite each other. NO I LOVE ACTUAL ONE DIRECTION THOUGHTS. I just tag everything on Tumblr "I WANT TO BITE MY OWN ARM OFF AK:AFHJFADHK:AFKL:AFS" because Tumblr is not the place for 1D manifestos as much I wish it was. YES THAT IS LOUIS. I agree so much. Sometimes I feel like Louis is secretly the Dad of the band because his immaturity has a purpose. He just wants everyone to get along so he is loud to distract from anything that might go wrong. Like that one twit cam the whole band did where Harry and Zayn got into a fight and Zayn (or Harry) pushed Harry (or Zayn, I CAN'T REMEMBER I WATCHED IT THROUGH MY FINGERS IT WAS SO TENSE) into the table and Louis was just super loud to get past it. Liam is just the Dad in a more obvious sense. Was it the La Boîte Questions one where Zayn missed his line about getting shipped out to Bel-Air? Because that surprised me. Louis is ALSO deeply goofy and weird. He's exactly the Mickey Dolenz (I watched a LOT of Monkeys as a kid) with the deliberate silliness for the little kids, but... he's also a tension diffuser and an attention pull. (Zayn and Harry are so much happier watching other people tell jokes than telling them themselves. And the other thing about Zayn -- he has like, two jokes, and he goes STRAIGHT to them in case of emergency. He's not doing improv. Which is why it was so easy to do an imitation of him.) Louis is genuinely clever and concerned about everyone's feelings and his goofiness very rarely actually interrupts or annoys anyone, which isn't how boy bands roll if one of them is an attention whore. ANYWAY. Louis. You are annoying but CLEARLY also great. (Also, when asked about first impressions, he says Niall was very open, Liam was very serious, Harry was charming, and Zayn was quiet. SO

There is this weird dichotomy, for me, in how they act, because a lot of the time they are inappropriate for a ~younger audience. I mean, they're teenage boys, they talk about sex a lot, and they've also been very outspoken in the past about safe sex (I'm pretty sure Harry has been quoted as saying that it's selfish for a boy not to use a condom), and the like. But they are also really goofy, and I have to wonder how much is genuine goofiness, and how much is just exaggerated because they do have younger fans
