friends

LJ really doesn't feel like much of a community to me that much anymore these days. I wonder is it just out of fashion, or if facebook, twitter, and all the newer media are taking their toll. Are people losing their attention spans? Maybe they are reconnecting with people they have a more personal relationship with? Or even if blogging as it has been for the past 5-10 years is ending. Might people be actually losing their appetite for online interaction? Heck, maybe I'm just getting older! Lurking online does seem to be something one has more time for when one is young. As evidenced by my lack of posting here, as well as that of my general (aging) friends list.

Speaking of RL vs LJ.... I really need friends near me. This is not the first time I've said this, I know, but normally it's about the quality of friends. This time it's just about proximity. I don't really have anyone I can hang out with. I used to have a couple of friends here that I could at least meet up with once or twice a month at the pub. One of them has become too involved with family and work to make the effort, and the other has moved back to the States. Again, it's probably age.

internet, getting older, friends, life, lj
