Asking for bus stop information
Today I mailed off two requests, one for schedules and one for bus stop locations. $50, zing!
Since I am appealing at the Supreme Court on another file, the city has an incentive to finalize the policy for disclosure in the coming weeks, to avoid any court costs. I would rather not have to go through this, and I
trust the Mayor that they will be able to approve a policy very shortly. If any of you wish to contact your councillor, now is a good time to do so.
Right now, Metro Transit is considering purchasing commercial route planner software for over $10,000.
I believe information about transit should be free, so any programmer can try to create a better route planner. Several programmers outside Halifax are interested in collaborating on such a project since the same software could be used in their city. We would release our work under a public domain license, free of cost for anyone to use- including this and other cities.
