In the United Kingdom, almost 40 of those accused have committed suicide in the past six years, as well as six in Australia and at least one in Canada.
Global child porn probe led to false accusationsNot all of those 40 were guilty. This is a deeply disturbing story of justice's "collateral damage".
France has also had its share of high-profile cases, including several for child sex abuse. In one case it was found that the evidence was completely fabricated by two babysitters who had been asking the children leading questions.
Call me a contrarian crank if you will. I know a problem with child sexual abuse exists. I know some people get off on child porn, that there's people producing and buying it. What our justice system is doing here however is irresponsible. Western societies are in the middle of a moral panic, reminiscent of fears of satanic ritual abuse when I grew up (all of which turned out to be bunk).
