And now we get to the Hakkai backstory. Wow. There's angst, and there is fucked up, and then there is this. Wow. He's got to be SO irretrievably broken. I mean, he was a human who became a demon, because he's had the blood of a thousand demons on his hands. That's...ummmm. I usually like to rewatch angsty scenes, but these ones are just...I don't

And the thing with Sanzo is that even though he knows Hakkai is coming apart at the seams, he still trusts him. That arc, when he's around Hakkai, you sort of see what Sanzo might have been like had he not been traumatized. He's as compassionate as he lets himself get with Hakkai.
And Goku, in his ever innocent and simplistic way, is good for the guys, no matter how annoying he gets. I love the magic marker scene. That's just the basis of why they need Goku with them.
All his issues are why when Hakkai goes into demon form (he does it once in the first season and once so far in Reload) he's basically in berserker mode and can't control himself (you never see him in demon form other than from the back). After he goes nuts in Reload Goku says "wow, Hakkai's cool...and scary" and then goes up and says he likes the normal Hakkai better.

Heck, if that world had an equivalent of Planned Parenthood, he might have just taken her there and that's the end of the issue.
I don't think Kanan knew about half-breeds like Gojyo. He seems like a rarity. But in any event, I don't necessarily think Kanan meant 'monster' as in 'has two heads and postules,' but 'monster' in the way people call serial killers or child molesters monsters. The thought of having a child of your rapist is pretty horrible in any circumstances, and when the guy was as unbelievably awful as this one, I can see why she would loathe the thought of the child and think of him as half-monster.
There is NO way that storyline could have ended well. About the best thing could have been if they put the kid up for adoption (because I can't imagine even Hakkai being able to cope with having him around, not to mention Kanan), but having this visible physical reminder of her trauma growing inside her would have probably driven Kanan mad(der). But still. Her killing herserf and in such a fashion is horrible. Worst possible timing ever. It's sort of 'how can we fuck with his head the most?'

Yes. He is gentle, and quiet, and steady. It's like another person. Or an inner person that's hidden away. I kinda like the scenes between them the most.

He is the only innocent among them, after all. And I do love that Sanzo recognizes the impostor because he doesn't say "I am hungry."

Yeah. If you unleash all that trauma and pent up rage, it will be a huge unstoppable mess. I wonder how he pulls himself back in check, because I think that would be impossible.
