I am sort of obsessed with Rock Rock Rock

Probably because you get to see things that are normally verbotten in kdramas - rock music! drugs! suicide attempts! premarital cohabitation (in high school, no less)! jail time for crimes actually committed!

I watched this a couple of days ago. I always feel weird watching biography films/shows of people that are still alive. Because, I always find myself wondering what they think of it. Like, what does the ex-girlfriend think of it?

I wonder - is the real Kim Tae Won still with the girl/woman he wrote Memories III for? If so, she's a saint: the man did all sorts of drugs, had break-downs, and seemed (from the drama clips I've seen/stuff about drama I read) to still be in love with the first love. I tried looking it up, but I could only find stuff about his drug use and bands. I just want to know, because, while watching the drama, I got the feeling the Tae Won 'character' never loved Hyun Joo as much as she loved him. It seemed more like he really needed her to take care of him, and he fell apart when she didn't. But, he didn't love her as much as he loved his first love.

Edit: I think he is. I found an interview at allkpop.com : "It was originally my song; nobody gave it another look, but they went crazy when Lee Seung Chul sang ( ... )

I know - and also, if you like e.g. character A and character B together, is it RPSshipping? Etc. The ex-gf wasn't portrayed as a monster or anything (I was pleasantly surprised) so hopefully this didn't bug her much (Korea doesn't seem to have rabid tabloid culture a la US, especially with non-idol types, so I doubt anyone is going to hunt her down for interviews/she is going to be in spotlight because of this ( ... )

After thinking about it, I wonder if the ex-girlfriend isn't a combo of several women? Because, legally, they'd have to ask permission from the ex. It would be easier to make the ex-girlfriend character a combo of several girlfriends he had over time. I don't know if that's the case, but it could be. Or, they could have change the name?

I think it is! Which is a bit creepy, because I certainly do not RPSship.

In the drama (because of course who knows about rl), I got the sense he really did love her though - quite differently from first love, because he was a total mess by that point and a very different person, but he definitely loved her as much as he could love anyone by that pointYou have a very good point. I guess he was just too messed-up. And, this is a drama - so everything is heightened in away. And, things could have been much worse in rl. (I'd sure they were in some cases, as he was using hard-core drugs back in the day) And, they couldn't show ( ... )

I don't see why they'd have to get her permission. I don't know about Korean laws but in the US it wouldn't be the case. Let me put it this way, if KTW wrote an autobiography and somene bought the rights to adapt it, they wouldn't have to clear it with every last person mentioned in it (see The Social Network and a million other movies). She could sue for libel but she'd have to prove it was wrong factually, damaging to her reputation, and done on purpose - a tall order, seeing that the teller is her ex and this happened decades ago. I can't see how they could spin an invasion of privacy tort out of it (a tough proposition even in the best of times) - when it's her bf talking and they don't go beyond into her life outside of any scenes they have together.

Not saying they didn't combine her or change her name, just don't think they'd have to do it for legal reasons.

And, that those words would be something to help snap him out of it.One of the things I really liked about RRR was that this didn't happen - power of love is great but ( ... )

I thought it wasn't right for his wife to be depicted in this way... because his first love was really shippy in my view ( ... )

I thought his wife came off extraordinarily well - a sort of a saint. The thing with the first love made sense for high school and it was a very 'we are so young and against the world' feel - I found it realistic how it didn't work out against the harsh glare of reality. The first love came across as very young and flaky to me from the start, but I don't blame her for wanting a better life - her running away was on impulse to start with ( ... )

Already watched the whole thing twice and I love the music. It was really interesting to learn about Korean hard rock/heavy metal scene as I knew nothing about it. Life really didn’t pull any punches on Kim Tae Won. Memories III recording is my favourite scene as well and the song rocks. I thought No Min Woo was great in this. I think the role was perfect for him, he is a rock guy and a musician and was given an opportunity to play Kim Tae Won, the godfather of Korean hard rock. I bet he loved it and he certainly gave his all. I love that Buhwal is like its name, keeps getting resurrected. On a side note, this drama had some god awful wigs.

I love the music so much. The best thing for me out of this drama is that I got to discover Buhwal. They are going on my small list of bands I like. I don't like kpop but Korean rock I can definitely get into.

The wigs? I didn't care how awful they were as long as they spared me The Mullet. No wonder he was suicidal, I'd be to if I had to have that haircut.

I was genuinely shocked by NMW. Never in a million years would I have thought he could have pulled a performance with intensity and strength of this. As you said, he got this chance and he really pulled out all the stops. I am completely eager to see what he does next.

So true. I do not like kpop or idol music at all, but Buhwal is right up my alley. Not even NMW's hotness could survive the mullet, it is the hair that kills sexiness. By the way, your little write up on NMW after Gumiho announcing Rock, Rock, Rock was what alerted me to this little gem. Thank you.

You are welcome :)

I am just glad it got subbed - I never thought it'd be.

Nobody can pull off the mullet. Nobody
