Things Damon has done to Elena/people Elena loves:
1. Used his powers to force one of her best friends into a physically, emotionally and sexually abusive relationship, as well as forced her to betray her friends and fight with one of them. 2. Attempted to murder her other best friend with Elena ten feet away. 3. Been directly responsible for the events leading to the death of that friend's grandmother, as well as releasing 30~ vampires on the town, all of whom he expected to want to wipe the town out. 4. Murdered his brother's best friend. 5. Taken her hostage and forced her to swallow his blood to use the threat of turning her into a vampire against Stefan. 6. Turned her biological mother into a vampire. 7. Repeatedly attacked and terrorized her friend/her ex-boyfriend's sister/the girl her brother was in love with and turned her into a vampire, making him directly responsible for her death, though not the person forced to actually kill her.
Off the top of my head.
Things I don't think she knows about:
1. Hoping she dies while his blood is still in her system. 2. Had sex with her biological mother. (Ok, she didn't know Isabel during either of these bits with her, but if everything else was removed, I think the sex/turning her into a vampire alone would be enough to weird her out forever.) 3. Murdering his ex-girlfriend for trying to avenge her friend's death. 4. Turning a trio of college girls into happy sextoys/food providers to deal with his angst. (I almost dumped the show forever with that scene.)
I haven't seen the new episode yet, but had been spoiled for that, and the creepiness Jeremy accidentally interrupted. And you know, I kind of really hate Jeremy and say I want him dead, but really, since Elena and Jenna love him, I more want him to go away and be safe and happy and never come back. Regardless, DAMON MURDERED HER BROTHER. Her brother who she loves very much and is very protective of, and is very scared of losing, especially with his drug use, all the vampires, and the minor fact that their parents died less than a year ago. That Jeremy has a stupid immortality ring doesn't change the fact that Damon acted with the specific intent to murder her brother in front of her.
I'll actually probably dump the show if it ever does go Damon/Elena, because there's no way my enjoyment will still be more than my rage over that.
OK, even without knowing half this stuff I could never ship them but after this? No way.
If the show ever goes D/E, I am out of here. Not for any shippy reasons but because it would indicate the writers are insane and have no idea how people operate.
Yes. I mean, I like Elena/Stefan fairly well, but I would actually rather she was single, at least until she was a bit older? And would be fine with them being platonic, and have no interest in either of them being with anyone else, but Damon/Elena would hit almost every "hells no!" button I have.
(I also don't think Damon is actually in love with Elena. I think he thinks he is and wants to be, but is in love with Katherine and only Katherine, at least at this point, but is trying to transfer it to Elena. I think it's very notable that his potentially romantic feelings for Elena begin almosdt immediately after he learns Katherine wasn't locked up, but actually just left town without a word.)
This list is the exact reason I cannot stand the idea of shipping Damon with Elena, hell ANYONE. I also will probably leave the show if it goes D/E... it's also the reason I gave up on Buffy.
I like Stefan/Elena enough, but what I'd really love would be for her and Bonnie to kick asses together.
In my head, there is a show called The Bonnie Chronicles. The Bonnie Chronicles is about Bonnie, the latest in a long line of powerful witches (of whom there are frequent flashbacks) who has supernatural adventures aided by her best friends Elena and Caroline. Sometimes, Elena's vampire boyfriend helps them out with the heavy lifting, but they're smart and capable and rescue themselves most of the time, and there's a secret council of monster hunters headed by Caroline's mother, the sheriff, and their history teacher. It may vaguely resemble a supernatural dSchool Nancy Drew.
And they jump forwards to college age and have like one of those supernatural PI agencies. And Bonnie has a motorcycle and Elena functions like her powers battery (kinda the way it seemed to work in Founder's Day).
I also have an Elena chronicles type of show in my head where Elena basically has Stefan, Bonnie and various others as her own personal supernatural army and she's the leader and brain of the bunch who has to make strategic decisions and work out negotiations with various supernatural entities while Stefan/Bonnie/etc are the supernatural "muscle". It focuses greatly on Elena being the unmissable leader and power house even though she doesn't have the physical powers solely due to her intellect and strength of character. She also frequently wear a baret ;)
