Does anyone even read this LJ anymore? I've not updated in 15 weeks - not even to say that Texas is great, wish you were here! kind of stuff.
BTW, Texas is great, wish you were here!
The last entry was about my accepting my job in B-ville, so I guess this should be an update about my life in Texas. Friends on facebook have an inkling based on my numerous status updates, lol. But I'm honestly enjoying Texas. I feel pangs of homesickness now and then, but mostly for what was a familiar and not always to be at home with my folks. With autumn here, I do miss Indiana more because I love having four distinct season. I knew this part of Texas was tropical when I moved here, but this will it/won't it cool down weather is rather annoying.
I do love my job though and I can honestly say I could see myself working here for a couple of years. I'm still living in the on-site apartment, which I've made into a cozy home. Once I cleaned it and won the insect infestation battle, its become a cozy home. I've got a small living room/office area now. My co-worker Sarah is still stationed here in the apartment, but I don't mind at all. Now that the office space has been rearranged and organized better, its more welcoming. I think she likes it better this way too. I didn't bring my halloween stuff with me, but I have bought a few things, mostly fall related that can be kept up through November and will be easy to pack and take home. I'll probably buy a few christmas related items too when December comes, maybe a small table top tree and some window clings. I always have to keep in mind that what I buy has to be packed up and able to fit into my car. Of course I am trading out. Things that worked before are being traded in for nicer containers or items. I'm moving out of my college decorating phase and into more of an adult style decor. So as a buy a new basket to hold my yarn, the old one gets put into the donation pile. I'll have a nice tidy pile by the time the year ends.
Like I said work is great and I do like my job. While I do stress and get frustrated as easy as ever, I still have a group of co-workers who help me out and are really nice. Its been a big time of change for the BHA - staff and work wise. Sarah and I were hired at the same time, but Sarah started in late May after her graduation from UT and I of course started in June. Then Dora was hired in August to take over the finances. Then in September, three co-workers left ((two moved away and one resigned)) and we just hired George and Fernando within the last couple of weeks. On top of that, we're redoing the Heritage Complex, just opened a location in the Southmost neighborhood of Bville, and we just opened Market Square like 6 months ago. So Sarah and I have been busy trying organize our programs and deal with the staff changes. I lost about 1/3 of my programs to Fernando, but I doubt my load is going to get any less.
I haven't gone into Mexico yet ((I don't have a passport)) and frankly with the violence getting worse in Matamoros, I've got no desire to go. I've ventured into McAllen, which is about an hour away and I've been over to South Padre Island which is less than 30 minutes. I'd like to venture up to Corpus or Galveston soon. They are about 2 and three hours away and would make for a nice day trip. Kate is coming in to visit me, maybe we'll head up together.
I'm excited about having visitors though. Kate is coming next week and Morgan is talking about coming down for New Years. Maybe her and Brett will come down in March on his leave. Maggie has even talked about visiting me. I'd love it - people never visit me, I always seem to go to them. But I have an air mattress, so visitors are always welcomed!
