Night 52: Main Hallway, 1-West

[To here]"Made it..." She whispered triumphantly as she walked quietly into the dark and quiet hallway first. It was hard to decide where the best place would be to stand since once others began to flood in, Asuka could easily be overshadowed by the taller adults. "Hmmm..." The best she could guess was to hug the opposite wall by the doorway and ( Read more... )

"Besides, I can't do anything even back home," she said with a shrug of her shoulders, continuing down the hallway and towards Claire's Uncle's room. "I mean, Edward used to call me a magnet for danger, but I don't really think that's so much a talent. It's more like I just got a really bad luck spin or something."

There were a few more patients in this hallway, which caused Bella to calm slightly. She remembered hearing something on the intercom about having something waiting for them, but by the looks of things, everything appeared to be normal for the moment. That was good, right?

She couldn't dwell on it. She didn't want to do what the Head Doctor was capable of doing, especially after last night.

"I ... think the rooms are that way?" Bella questioned, pointing down the hallway and towards the Sun Room. "Maybe. I mean, I've never been allowed down there, since there's so desperate to keep the genders separate, like we're back in high school or something."

"You probably know better than I do, I mean, I haven't been over there either. I'm just going off what I saw on your map." She hesitated to mention that she'd lent it out to her uncle -- hopefully, he'd get the chance to return it when they met up with him and they'd be fine after that. If not, well, they'd find his room somehow. Couldn't be too hard.

"Anyway, I wouldn't worry about the whole … lack of ability thing. As nice as it can be for when I accidentally impale myself, it's just one big complication after another. Life would be easier without it." She wouldn't have to worry about running away from the Company. Or Sylar. Or all of her dad's lies. Shoving the grim thoughts back, she just gave an awkward smile.

"The talents aren't worth the hassle they bring." But, that was the best Bella was going to get in terms of explanation. She wasn't that comfortable with her yet. In fact, she was pretty sure there wasn't anyone she was that comfortable with who hadn't been through it themselves already.

[From here.]For some reason, it hadn't really crossed Peter's mind that he might run into his niece during his search for someone to spend the night with. She had sounded fine over the bulletin and hadn't made an effort to contact him, so he had just assumed she was doing what she wanted for the night. In fact, he'd gone out of his way to not bother her about it, because he could tell that that annoyed her. So when he ended up spotting her down the hall as he turned into it, he could only hope that she wouldn't assume he'd come looking for her ( ... )

Bella listened to Claire speak about her ability and couldn't help but frown at the girl's seeming dislike for what she was able to do. "I understand," she told her quietly, giving the girl a small smile before speaking once again. "And whoa, accidentally impaling yourself? Who accidentally impales themselves?"

Never mind that if anyone were to accidentally do as such it would be ... well, her, but that was besides the point.

When another voice spoke out from the darkness, Bella couldn't help but tense - however, the man seemed amiable, and at once she knew it had to be Claire's uncle. ... At least, she hoped. "Er, hi," she greeted, giving Claire the side eye in that "is this him?" way.

She was opening her mouth to explain how one could accidentally impale themselves -- which, honestly, Claire could probably count on one hand the times she'd done it, but it had been known to happen -- but as soon as she saw Peter, her mouth just hung open stupidly, brows knitting together in a look of relief. He was definitely okay. Sure, he'd said as much on the bulletin, but seeing him in person for the first time all day made a big difference in reassuring her of that fact.

After all, she didn't exactly know his handwriting, and anyone could sign a bulletin note "Peter." She realized quickly that Bella was confused, though, and her mouth caught up with her brain after an awkward moment's silence. She blinked quickly and shook her head, laughing ( ... )

So they hadn't been expecting him, either. That made sense, since it wasn't as if he and Claire had made plans. Still, if there was anywhere for them to run into each other, this would be the place. As he'd guessed, the girl with Claire was her roommate after all, and she looked nice enough. Claire seemed to think well of her, especially if she was wandering around with her at night, and so Peter pretty much instantly approved.

"Nice to meet you, Bella," he said as he stepped forward, setting down his pillow case full of supplies for a moment so that he could shake her hand. Some might have thought it silly that he was even bothering with it, but this area was relatively safe and the night was early. He wanted to make a good impression, especially since he'd been introduced as "uncle Peter ( ... )

So this was Peter. At once, Bella relaxed, and watching him drop his bag, and hold his hand out to shake, she responded ... frantically. Dropping her bat with a clank, she reached out to shake his hand, her cheeks a slight red. "You too."

Uncle? Bella couldn't help but wonder about the man in front of her for a few minutes - he looked so young! Surely not old enough to be an uncle of anyone's -

But then, she figured, if he had an older brother or something ...

There was no time to think about it. Luckily, Peter had brought the syringe with him, and instantly Bella perked up, bending down to get her bat quickly before pointing back in the direction that her and Claire had just come from. "He's back this way, M114," she told him, turning around and instantly beginning the back track towards Edward's room.
