Night 52: Main Hallway, 1-West

[To here]"Made it..." She whispered triumphantly as she walked quietly into the dark and quiet hallway first. It was hard to decide where the best place would be to stand since once others began to flood in, Asuka could easily be overshadowed by the taller adults. "Hmmm..." The best she could guess was to hug the opposite wall by the doorway and ( Read more... )

[From here.]

For some reason, it hadn't really crossed Peter's mind that he might run into his niece during his search for someone to spend the night with. She had sounded fine over the bulletin and hadn't made an effort to contact him, so he had just assumed she was doing what she wanted for the night. In fact, he'd gone out of his way to not bother her about it, because he could tell that that annoyed her. So when he ended up spotting her down the hall as he turned into it, he could only hope that she wouldn't assume he'd come looking for her.

Though now that he was here, it wasn't as if he couldn't say hello. Claire was already with someone, a girl around her age who might very well be her roommate. Seeing how they were coming from the direction of the female block together, that was probably the case. Maybe Claire was planning to head to the file room again?

"Hey," he called out, trying to raise up a hand to wave until he realized that both of them were full; one was holding the shovel, while the other was grabbing into his bag of supplies and his flashlight (it was precarious, he had to admit). "Where are you off to?" He made sure to smile at the other girl as well, doing his best to be friendly despite the weird circumstances.

Bella listened to Claire speak about her ability and couldn't help but frown at the girl's seeming dislike for what she was able to do. "I understand," she told her quietly, giving the girl a small smile before speaking once again. "And whoa, accidentally impaling yourself? Who accidentally impales themselves?"

Never mind that if anyone were to accidentally do as such it would be ... well, her, but that was besides the point.

When another voice spoke out from the darkness, Bella couldn't help but tense - however, the man seemed amiable, and at once she knew it had to be Claire's uncle. ... At least, she hoped. "Er, hi," she greeted, giving Claire the side eye in that "is this him?" way.

She was opening her mouth to explain how one could accidentally impale themselves -- which, honestly, Claire could probably count on one hand the times she'd done it, but it had been known to happen -- but as soon as she saw Peter, her mouth just hung open stupidly, brows knitting together in a look of relief. He was definitely okay. Sure, he'd said as much on the bulletin, but seeing him in person for the first time all day made a big difference in reassuring her of that fact.

After all, she didn't exactly know his handwriting, and anyone could sign a bulletin note "Peter." She realized quickly that Bella was confused, though, and her mouth caught up with her brain after an awkward moment's silence. She blinked quickly and shook her head, laughing.

"Uh, yeah, um. Sorry, uh, Peter, this is Bella, my roommate. Bella, this is Peter -- uncle Peter." She gestured between them during the introduction and then turned her attention on Peter. "We were actually coming to see you. Do you still have that syringe with my blood in it? Bella's boyfriend got hurt pretty badly, she wanted to see if it would do anything for him." Saying it out loud, and to Peter no less, made her realize the gravity of how casual she was about her ability around Bella.

She cast a surreptitious gaze in the girl's direction, visibly, although subtly, surprised with herself. She'd never really had a friend she could trust with something like that who didn't have an ability of their own. It felt … good.

So they hadn't been expecting him, either. That made sense, since it wasn't as if he and Claire had made plans. Still, if there was anywhere for them to run into each other, this would be the place. As he'd guessed, the girl with Claire was her roommate after all, and she looked nice enough. Claire seemed to think well of her, especially if she was wandering around with her at night, and so Peter pretty much instantly approved.

"Nice to meet you, Bella," he said as he stepped forward, setting down his pillow case full of supplies for a moment so that he could shake her hand. Some might have thought it silly that he was even bothering with it, but this area was relatively safe and the night was early. He wanted to make a good impression, especially since he'd been introduced as "uncle Peter."

That was still so bizarre.

But... they'd been coming to look for him? Though Claire was quick to explain why, and Peter was glad that he'd thought to pack the syringe. While it wouldn't have been a huge deal to have to backtrack to his room and pick it up, this made things easier, especially when time was so precious. It sounded like Bella had already been filled in about the whole healing blood concept, which was surprising. Claire wasn't usually the open sort, but maybe she'd figured that it would be tough to keep secrets from her roommate.

Or wait -- these two had been attacked together, hadn't they? Then maybe Bella had seen the healing in action and Claire had been forced to spill. That was more likely.

Peter was a little surprised to hear that Bella's boyfriend was here, just because he hadn't come across that yet. Family members ended up here together, and friends, but significant others seemed a bit lower on the list. Still, he was more than happy to help. "Yeah, I brought it," he said, motioning to his sack as he picked it up again. "Where is he?" Now that there was a potential patient involved, Peter wanted to get there as fast as possible.

So this was Peter. At once, Bella relaxed, and watching him drop his bag, and hold his hand out to shake, she responded ... frantically. Dropping her bat with a clank, she reached out to shake his hand, her cheeks a slight red. "You too."

Uncle? Bella couldn't help but wonder about the man in front of her for a few minutes - he looked so young! Surely not old enough to be an uncle of anyone's -

But then, she figured, if he had an older brother or something ...

There was no time to think about it. Luckily, Peter had brought the syringe with him, and instantly Bella perked up, bending down to get her bat quickly before pointing back in the direction that her and Claire had just come from. "He's back this way, M114," she told him, turning around and instantly beginning the back track towards Edward's room.
