Nightshift 38: M31-M40 Hallway

( From here.Holding a gun, ammo, a katana, and a kunai wasn't very easy. Especially when walking around a dark area at night. He'd waited for Akihiko to leave because Homura probably would have skinned him alive if his roommate had found out the club was in possession of a gun. And a key ( Read more... )

And then he was there. The usual knocking followed suit as Sai waited patiently (but not as patiently as usual) outside the pirate's door.

"Usopp," he greeted. "It's Sai. Do you have a moment?" Hopefully his friend would be okay with what he was going to ask for. He didn't have much time for arguing.

Usopp was a little surprised to hear a knock so early in the evening, but Sai's voice wasn't a surprise at all, so he quickly opened the door to let the ninja in.

"Hi, sure. Is something wrong?" The way he'd asked if Usopp had a moment seemed strange too, considering that usually Usopp thought of Sai as welcome anytime and for multiple moments, either to help out or if he just wanted to hang around. Not that the ninja probably thought of it in terms like that.

"No, not particularly." Sai stepped inside but made no effort to get comfortable. He pointed towards the pirate's closet. "I need to ask for something, if that's all right."

He didn't think it would be. He'd helped gather materials and Mello now owed him. "I need some of the flammable and/or acidic chemicals."

"Well, sure, if you want... have you talked to Mello about those?" It had been days since he'd even heard from the other man, and Usopp was starting to get tired of holding dangerous chemicals without any news. "You do know how to use them, though, right? Some of these are pretty dangerous, even if you're careful. If they get mixed or jostled too much, or spill on something, even the fumes can kill you if you don't have ventilation." Say, if you were in your bedroom without any windows. "But I do need the room. Especially after last night!" That memory was enough to brighten his mood.

Stepping outside of his room, he found it easier to at least have only the flashlight to worry about carrying tonight. The plans for tonight were more agreeable too--instead of an uncertain wait for clues that might or not benefit him, there were concrete orders to get metal from the bathroom, followed by a plan to get another weapon. A metal pipe by itself would at least be better than the flashlight, even if the second mission fell through ( ... )

( From here.)

Short and blond. Short... and blond. Brunette, brunette, blond guy hugging a kid and... short and blond guy.

"Hey there! Commander?" Heiji tilted his head once he was close enough to the guy and grinned. "'M Hattori, the guy who's leadin' the team t'night?"

He really hoped he had the right guy, otherwise this could get kind of awkward.

"Yes, I'm the Commander-guy." He turned his attention to the new man, his expression still neutral. "You're Hattori? Wasn't there supposed to be a larger team?"

If not, it was fine with him, so long as he got his weapon, but if they had to look for other people it would take time. As long as he got at least a simple weapon out of it, that didn't matter, he told himself. There was almost no chance of escaping tonight no matter how quickly they moved, so rushing through the Club objectives would be meaningless.

"Yeah, there's another guy we're meetin' in th'other block. We shouldn' leave 'im alone too long, so le's get movin' yeah?" He laughed nervously. "And uh... I guess Commander is fine? I didn' know, so uh... y'don' have t'call yourself 'Commander-guy' if y'don' want to..."

Honestly at the time, Heiji didn't know if 'Commander' was a name or a title, hence the strange referral.

"Anyway, we're goin' t'get some metal, put it 'n uh... prob'ly Kudou's room, then get you guys some half-decent weapons," he started down the hallway. "C'mon, he's this way."

Kenren was halfway into his uniform when he heard the knock on the door, his long coat still laid out on the bed along with his gloves. He went to answer it anyway, even shirtless, opening it and smiling at Hattori. "I remember," he said, stepping aside to let him enter.

"Thanks for bringing it," he said with a pleased smile. "It'll be nice to have something like that in my hands again." Hopefully it would be a good size for his hands too.

"Yeah, sounds like it," Heiji said, not at all bothered by Kenren's state of undress. Kendo locker rooms had that effect, after all--naked boys all over the place. The detective entered the room, setting down the gun and the ammunition on Kenren's desk.

"And it's no problem at all," he said with a cheerful smile. "Wouldn' want you guys runnin' around when y'r injured'n all, yeah?"

Kenren turned to grab his coat, pulling it on with practiced ease and bucling the belt tight around his waist. Much better. Then the gloves were pulled on. "Yeah," Kenren agreed. "It's not bad enough to bother a healer with it, I'd just prefer to not get any more injured," he said with a grin. Cracked ribs which made it painful to move. No wonder he'd spent a lot of the day sleeping.

He picked up the gun, checking it over carefully. Very different design to what he was used to, but it fit his hand well enough. He raised it and sighted along the barrel. "Are you set for the night?" he asked Hattori as he reached for the ammo.

"As set as I'll ever be," Heiji said with a good-natured laugh. "I dunno if I'll ever be really 'set' f'r anythin'. But, we're jus' gettin' some metal and stuff, so it shouldn' be a problem."

He sat down in the other desk, craning his neck to see out the door. He hoped that Itachi would hurry up and get there--it made him nervous to think about Kudou sitting around like so much fish bait.

Farfarello was just carefully capping the last of the fire bombs as the doors unlocked. That had gone well--he'd been able to eat and get the work done in time. Nothing had gotten spilled; he'd used only his steady, uninjured hand to actually do the pouring. He hadn't armed himself for the night yet, though, so he put the chemicals aside and set to getting ready while he waited for his appointments.

If no one arrived by the time he was fully armed, Farfarello was going to start getting impatient with waiting.

Sai walked down the hall carefully, not wanting to jostle anything in his makeshift bag too much, though he believed the actual chance of them being spilled wasn't very high. Keeping the pillowcase steady in one hand, he knocked on the door with the other.

"It's Sai," the ninja said afterward. "Are you there?" He didn't think he'd taken too long a time getting the requested items, but one never knew how the minutes were going to go by in this place.

Farfarello was just finishing writing a note for Renamon, and about to head out the door himself when someone knocked on it. That it turned out to be Sai was something of a relief--Farfarello hated to think he'd wasted the effort of writing a note and all that. It was such a nice note, too, it even had brief instructions on how to use the fire bombs. For Farfarello, this was extremely generous.

Opening the door, Farfarello arched an eyebrow at the ninja. "I was just about to give up on you."

"My apologies." Sai bowed his head briefly before holding up the bag for Farfarello to see. "I hope this is what you're expecting. I'd hate to waste our time further by having to run back."

He was willing to make this trade, but that didn't mean the man needed to know where he'd gotten the supplies from, or how close that room was to his own.

In an ideal world, Scourge would have just sat tight and waited for someone else to make the escape plan. But he hadn't seen anyone else bar Wesker--and he wasn't quite sure he could trust the other organic. Anyone who seemed that calm had to be hiding something. With his club/makeshift headlight held tightly in one hand , Scourge nervously poked his head out the door and down the hallway. He could hear footsteps and muttered bits of dialogue, but nothing useful or familiar.

There were other people there, Wesker had been honest about that. Best to ignore them for now--if this was anything like Torkulon, chances were they wouldn't have much sanity left. Scourge felt it best to just make a run for it.
