Nightshift 38: M31-M40 Hallway

( From here.Holding a gun, ammo, a katana, and a kunai wasn't very easy. Especially when walking around a dark area at night. He'd waited for Akihiko to leave because Homura probably would have skinned him alive if his roommate had found out the club was in possession of a gun. And a key ( Read more... )

Farfarello was just carefully capping the last of the fire bombs as the doors unlocked. That had gone well--he'd been able to eat and get the work done in time. Nothing had gotten spilled; he'd used only his steady, uninjured hand to actually do the pouring. He hadn't armed himself for the night yet, though, so he put the chemicals aside and set to getting ready while he waited for his appointments.

If no one arrived by the time he was fully armed, Farfarello was going to start getting impatient with waiting.

Sai walked down the hall carefully, not wanting to jostle anything in his makeshift bag too much, though he believed the actual chance of them being spilled wasn't very high. Keeping the pillowcase steady in one hand, he knocked on the door with the other.

"It's Sai," the ninja said afterward. "Are you there?" He didn't think he'd taken too long a time getting the requested items, but one never knew how the minutes were going to go by in this place.

Farfarello was just finishing writing a note for Renamon, and about to head out the door himself when someone knocked on it. That it turned out to be Sai was something of a relief--Farfarello hated to think he'd wasted the effort of writing a note and all that. It was such a nice note, too, it even had brief instructions on how to use the fire bombs. For Farfarello, this was extremely generous.

Opening the door, Farfarello arched an eyebrow at the ninja. "I was just about to give up on you."

"My apologies." Sai bowed his head briefly before holding up the bag for Farfarello to see. "I hope this is what you're expecting. I'd hate to waste our time further by having to run back."

He was willing to make this trade, but that didn't mean the man needed to know where he'd gotten the supplies from, or how close that room was to his own.

Farfarello reached out to take the bag, so that he could inspect the contents. Not that he particularly doubted Sai, the boy seemed oddly forthright for a ninja, and not the type to go back on his word. But it was Farfarello's policy to always verify--mercenaries didn't get very far trusting people to do the right thing.

The ninja would have rather seen the kunai before handing the pillowcase over, but unfortunately he wasn't the one holding the cards at the moment. He let Farfarello take it, but also placed a foot nonchalantly inside the doorway as he did so. He doubted he was going to get the door slammed in his face, but all the same...

The acids were wrapped in an extra shirt each, to keep from clinking together as he carried them. Hopefully they'd be as strong as the man had wanted.

Farfarello did not miss the foot jammed in his doorway. He almost laughed, but he really couldn't blame the kid for not trusting him. At least the ninja was just bizarrely earnest and not actually an idiot.

Once he'd unwrapped the acids and checked the labels--even Farfarello was not quite masochistic enough to check the acids directly--Farfarello nodded to Sai. "These check out." He pulled the kunai out of its hiding place and tossed it Sai's way. "All yours."

The throwing weapon was caught deftly between two fingers, the familiar feel of the tool an odd comfort. Sai smiled, glad to have his task finally completed. "Thank you. I'm sorry again for taking your time."

With another slight bow, the ninja backed out of the doorway. Hopefully, he'd not just done something he'd come to regret later. Though, as Usopp had pointed out, if the man really wanted acids there was nothing keeping him from going after them himself.

Now he just had to meet up with Kakashi and the others, if they hadn't already left without him.

Renamon came up on the room she had visited the night before, hoping that her acquaintence was still there. She lightly knocked, then waited at attention, a duplicate of the case she had carried the night before in her hand.

Jiraiya stood off to the side, far enough away that he was obviously part of the group... but also far enough that it'd be easy for whomever they were visiting to have a private conversation with Renamon. He hesitated, watching her back for a moment, before crossing his arms and leaning against the wall opposite of the door. And tried not to look too threatening.

After a moment, no one answered, and Renamon knocked harder. The door creaked open under the pressure, and she glanced back at Jiraiya. "It looks like he left already."

She stepped inside, not completely comfortable with being there without the man. A note on the desk nearby drew her attention.

"Here's your shit. They'll burst into flame when the liquids mix. Throw them hard enough to break both glass containers. Try not to fall on one."

Next to the note were two containers--each a large vial with a smaller inside. These she carefully placed in the case she was carrying, steadying them with other items. Closing the case, she grinned at Jiraiya. "This will make things a little more fun."

Jiraiya raised an eyebrow as Renamon came out with the two vials. He straightened and uncrossed his arms, walking over next to her again. Judging by that smile, and the word "fun", Jiraiya suspected that the liquids either were flammable or explosive in nature.

"New 'toy', eh?" Jiraiya asked with a smirk.

"Perhaps," was her reply, paired with a small smile. Checking the case once more, her flashlight, and the knuckle they had found previously, she took a step foward. She loathed being weighed down by the case, but it was mostly empty now, and it would be easier to take it with her than to get a new one every time.

"We should get going."
