Nightshift 38: M31-M40 Hallway

( From here.Holding a gun, ammo, a katana, and a kunai wasn't very easy. Especially when walking around a dark area at night. He'd waited for Akihiko to leave because Homura probably would have skinned him alive if his roommate had found out the club was in possession of a gun. And a key ( Read more... )

Stepping outside of his room, he found it easier to at least have only the flashlight to worry about carrying tonight. The plans for tonight were more agreeable too--instead of an uncertain wait for clues that might or not benefit him, there were concrete orders to get metal from the bathroom, followed by a plan to get another weapon. A metal pipe by itself would at least be better than the flashlight, even if the second mission fell through.

But he'd been here two nights already, which seemed much too long. He wasn't meant to function as a solitary force; he belonged to and needed his king to give him direction and purpose. Finding ways to defend himself and learning more about this place were only steps towards survival at best. Keeping his existence, even if it meant fleeing a battle scene, so that he could serve his ultimate function was an order that could be extended into the survival here. As long as he was in this place, though, he couldn't serve that higher function at all, and allowing himself to be taken from home so easily might be considered as bad as allowing himself to be destroyed. It wasn't a good thought. Lingering on it also wouldn't help, so he kept it at the back of his mind, but focused on the night's tasks first of all, and on actually accomplishing something with the time.

( From here.)

Short and blond. Short... and blond. Brunette, brunette, blond guy hugging a kid and... short and blond guy.

"Hey there! Commander?" Heiji tilted his head once he was close enough to the guy and grinned. "'M Hattori, the guy who's leadin' the team t'night?"

He really hoped he had the right guy, otherwise this could get kind of awkward.

"Yes, I'm the Commander-guy." He turned his attention to the new man, his expression still neutral. "You're Hattori? Wasn't there supposed to be a larger team?"

If not, it was fine with him, so long as he got his weapon, but if they had to look for other people it would take time. As long as he got at least a simple weapon out of it, that didn't matter, he told himself. There was almost no chance of escaping tonight no matter how quickly they moved, so rushing through the Club objectives would be meaningless.

"Yeah, there's another guy we're meetin' in th'other block. We shouldn' leave 'im alone too long, so le's get movin' yeah?" He laughed nervously. "And uh... I guess Commander is fine? I didn' know, so uh... y'don' have t'call yourself 'Commander-guy' if y'don' want to..."

Honestly at the time, Heiji didn't know if 'Commander' was a name or a title, hence the strange referral.

"Anyway, we're goin' t'get some metal, put it 'n uh... prob'ly Kudou's room, then get you guys some half-decent weapons," he started down the hallway. "C'mon, he's this way."

Hattori had a strange way of talking, although he could understand it easily enough. "I am the Commander, but I'm not your Commander. If it's easier for you to say Commander-guy, it doesn't make a difference to me," he clarified. It might be confusing, since he wasn't the leader of the group, to have the official leader call him Commander. But the only other options were nicknames or, "The nurses call me Henri. That isn't my name. But if it's easier, you could also call me that."

He wasn't used to following anyone other than his King's direct instruction, but cooperating for the moment should be all right, so long as it didn't contradict his King's orders. Not knowing the way, he followed Hattori with just the flashlight, but was satisfied with the repeated confirmation that they'd obtain weapons by the end of the night.
