Nightshift 21 - 2nd Floor - Stairway Landing between Decom/Medical Library/Staff Training

((from here))At the top of the stairs, things didn’t look any better to Rufus. Straining to hear or see anything, he stopped at the top of the stairs. Before he had never considered the dark worrisome. It was merely an absence of light. Anything that was there in the light was there in the night. Unfortunately, Landel’s had a way of changing ( Read more... )

[From here.]

It had been a chore getting past the other patients and whatever it was they were dealing with. If they got held up with each situation that was going on, they'd never get anywhere. And anyway, they were both unarmed and probably useless to them anyway. It was better to just move on past with flashlights off and draw as little attention as possible if they wanted to get upstairs...

The stairway he had wanted to take had been obstructed, but the one near the female blocks was fine. It just meant a little extra travel. He had taken a hold of Ginji's hand to keep the other from stopping to help. As they reached the top of the stairs, though, Kurama let go as he moved forward to the first branching of the hallway, shining a light down each way.

Now that they were here, Kurama wasn't sure where he wanted to go... "Where to now?" he asked, looking back to Ginji. He didn't bother asking if he'd been up here. That was fairly obvious since the other had been through the same experimental treatment.

At the same time, Kurama could hear a faint clicking coming from down the hallway, and sound of a door closing. What that meant, he wasn't sure, but it was more likely to be bad than good.

Ginji didn't like how they rushed through the hospital without even bothering to pause and see if everyone else was okay, but at least now they weren't stuck in one place. He looked around a bit and frowned. It wasn't as if he knew which way to go really. Though he had been up here before the memory of what had happened was already pretty fuzzy.

Despite that, he still felt scared as they looked around. This was closer to where they had... done of those things to him. He frowned. He couldn't let himself get too upset. That would mean that he would come out and that would be dangerous.

"Uhhh..." he said after a while. "I'm not really sure..."

Kurama accepted the answer, but he wasn't any more sure than Ginji was.

"There was a noise down this way..." he pointed out, shining his flashlight down the corridor. He thought he might have been able to see a door of some kind, but the light wasn't strong enough to give any real detail.

He was both cautious and curious about this noise. It was something he really couldn't help. He wanted to know what had made it, even if it did prove to be dangerous... After all, they were looking for people. Kuronue, in particular. And it was unlikely that creatures could open and close these doors. So whatever had made that noise had to be a person.

Creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-kathunk. The door shut again, followed by clicking heels and an orange glow.

Kurama should have taken that statement back; monsters were everywhere.

"It's cleaning time now, sirs."

Ginji stopped when he heard the noise. It was just a door, but it was terrifying. He blinked in surprise when the woman spoke, though... it was a woman. He knew from experience that women could be very dangerous, but it still unnerved him when they were.

Cleaning time...? "But... we aren't dirty," Ginji said dumbly, not really realizing he said it aloud.

Kurama froze at that voice, something close to fear running down his spine. He couldn't make out the figure well yet, even with the flashlight shining down the hall, but he knew that voice... He'd heard it two nights ago, in fact.

"She works for Landel's. Be on guard." Stepping back, he threw the warning to Ginji, wishing he had something to defend himself with. "She's the one who attacked me the other night."

There was always the option of running, but he didn't want to if it was avoidable. They couldn't keep running and expect to get anywhere...

"Cleaning time, sirs," she repeated for them. The clicking and glowing only became closers, heels beginning to tread into something wet on the tiles. She struck out with her weapon, hitting something on the ground with a thump. The object heavily thudded to its side, and the maid examined it for a brief moment before stepping over it.

Ginji didn't want to fight again. Not ever. Not in this place. Not in front of Kurama. The sounds were scaring him.

"Let's run," he told Kurama, not even pretending to be strong enough to face her. He looked around quickly for any direction to run. Then, grabbing Kurama's hand to make sure he came along, he took off.

Kurama had been fully prepared to face this woman again, though not as prepared as he would have liked. He still didn't have a weapon he could wield without weakening himself, and whatever she was holding looked quite a bit more dangerous than the broken glass he'd found in his arm two nights before.

He didn't like the glowing of the weapon, either...

But he wasn't prepared for Ginji to suddenly announce that he wanted to retreat. Wasn't prepared to have his hand grabbed, or to be yanked away from the woman.

He didn't want to run. Kuronue was around here somewhere, right? They couldn't just keep running. He had to find Kuronue! But Ginji looked frightened, and he reasoned with himself that standing and fighting and possibly getting hurt even worse than before was not going to help them any more than running away would. In fact, it would probably be worse.

Reluctantly, Kurama kept a hold of Ginji's hand and followed quickly after the other.

Ginji didn't stop. He ran down the hallway towards what he thought would be safety, or at least safer than hanging around with the scary cleaning lady.

[ran, dragging Kurama along, here
