Nightshift 21 - 2nd Floor - Stairway Landing between Decom/Medical Library/Staff Training

At the top of the stairs, things didn’t look any better to Rufus. Straining to hear or see anything, he stopped at the top of the stairs. Before he had never considered the dark worrisome. It was merely an absence of light. Anything that was there in the light was there in the night. Unfortunately, Landel’s had a way of changing that. Nasty things came out in the dark here.
Keeping his hand against the wall, he waited, half-expecting to hear Reno’s voice or that of some other Special Counseling patient from the nurse’s station where the Turk had been lurking last night. Biting his lower lip, Rufus took a careful step forward and waited again. He was more secure with the stairs at his back, ready to get back down them as fast as he possibly could if he heard anything that sounded remotely bad.
Should have gotten some backup.
He agreed with that thought, but last night he had gotten bogged down and accomplished nothing. He didn’t plan on making the same mistake twice. He had to get himself and Reno armed, especially with Kadaj all stirred up and Yazoo being here. If they had weapons, they stood a better chance of not ending up crippled or worse as Elena had been.
Where Reno had been standing last night was probably his best bet, even if the doors were locked again. Reno had to come from somewhere after they had brainwashed him. Hopefully it was somewhere close to where he had been standing. Whoever had done that to his Turk had re-armed the man with his own weapons. With luck, he might find his guns or something else useful.
