Night 53: M31-M40

Dec 12, 2010 18:38

Sleep came and left Kaworu easily. He couldn't remember most of the time he had spent there in bed, but he acknowledged the absence of experience. Nothing had happened that day. A person had told him to sleep, and laid a hand on his head. He had felt nothing. He only stayed still, and waited for the bleed of identities that did not come. He was ( Read more... )

Today had been one massive load of crap, and tonight wasn't promising to be any better. Sure, dinner had been good, and the kid he was housed with now seemed okay. But Sanosuke knew that night meant getting to Yuffie's room as quick as possible, in case Ninja Girl felt like trying to skip out on him. Hard to say, given that the lack of nurses presented her with a prime opportunity to try and kick him in the balls. Again.

However it turned out, Sanosuke didn't have time to waste. The Head Doctor's ranting went largely ignored. Like Sano really cared about some Eagle guy? All that mattered was that the man had stopped screwing around, so the doors were open. He gave Touya a wave, and the typical be careful before he headed out into the hall.

Interesting; the mask came off much more quickly than usual tonight. Mello was still sure the Head Arsehole was playing at something, but was there someone he answered to, and would the prisoners' behavior reflect on him? This 'Eagle' would obviously know, and condone, what really went on here, assuming they existed at all.

Or would they? Mello immediately resolved to be on his very worst behavior, come morning. He even considered making a raid on the greenhouse, to be better supplied to that end, but decided against it. Dragging himself and Matt into a replay of the previous night was the last thing he needed to do.

After Vino left, Mello went to the closet to begin his usual routine, and found something there that wasn't usual at all.

Was it real, or just another trick? He reached out and let his fingers brush over the leather almost reverently. It felt real. Why the hell would they give his own clothes back to him ( ... )

It felt like at some point that Stefan had ceased breathing in order to survive the rest of dinner - but that was ridiculous. Even though he didn't really require oxygen to live, his body still clung to some vestiges of humanity, and his lungs breathed as naturally and as persistently as when he'd been alive. He could no more turn it off than he could turn off his (slow, half-dead) heartbeat. Still, he imagined himself not breathing. Not speaking, not looking, not smelling - just remaining where he was, curled up with his back pressed against the dresser, until the intercom jingled to life ( ... )

Castiel had just barely finished registering what had been said on the intercom when his roommate uncurled from his spot on the floor and took off just as soon as he'd said some sort of farewell. He watched the young man's form slip out of the door and frowned to himself. He needed to eat -- that could mean a number of things. Most creatures needed food, and that of course included humans, but unlike humans, most monsters turned nasty when they were deprived.

Still, Stefan was as good as gone, which meant that Castiel couldn't spend any more time on him. He was concerned in the way that someone who wanted to solve a problem was concerned, but if anything came up it would be when dinner rolled around again. If Stefan lost control of himself Castiel was sure he could handle it, but then again, he was relatively powerless here ( ... )

[from here]

Given how quickly Yue had fled his room and the short distance from his room to Touya's, it was the matter of but moments (in his mind, at least; with the fluid nature of time here it might not be the same to others) before he'd arrived and rapped sharply on the door. Without his flashlight the sound wasn't quite as loud, but he hadn't wanted to delay long enough to fetch the thing, especially when it hadn't been working.

Besides, he was impatient to go find Sakura. It seemed like the only time he ever saw the girl and reassured himself that she was still present and in good health was at night. And he needed to be certain that both of the Kinomoto siblings were well, now that he knew something was going on with Fai and, with their close association with the magician, they might be caught up in it.

Touya was more or less ready when Yue knocked on his door--it was in rather short-order too. Yue's roommate must have been asking prodding questions again. Though fortunately Touya's sack of things had stayed more or less consistent in the past few nights, so gathering the things was a quick process.

He opened the door for the guardian and nodded, "Yue." Touya moved to leave the room and shut the door. Yue never much liked to hang around, even if Yuki did...

The door opened quickly enough, making Yue wonder if perhaps Touya was just as worried and eager to go check on Sakura. It was hardly surprising, considering the topic of their conversation at lunch, though he hadn't had the opportunity to pass on that he'd sensed her out and about that afternoon. Though it was possible Touya had seen that for himself ( ... )

For a moment Touya thought something was wrong with Yue or Sakura, the way he zoned out like that and his wings shivered. It looked so unnatural and a little forced, Touya had to wonder what was going on.

It was clear enough when Yuki's arms went around his waist, and Touya suddenly found himself with an armful of Other Self. Ah... maybe the change had only looked so awkward because he'd never seen it take place without a full body-change during the night. Or maybe because Yue and Yuki were upset, and he knew Yue wouldn't just reach out and ask for comfort. Yuki would, and Touya would always be there to give it.

He wrapped his arms around Yuki's shoulders and pulled him close, resting his cheek on the other boy's head.

"I know... do you want to come inside for a minute?" He wasn't uncomfortable out in the hallway, but if Yuki wanted to calm down before going to Sakura's room, he wouldn't argue the point.
