Mah blue ribbon, let me show you it!

As usual I both volunteered at and entered at the local county fair -- checking-in and judging Poetry entries for the former, and going with my usual handspun yarn for the latter. Got my third blue ribbon in a row for spinning, so I'm happy (even if it's always a small class and the competition isn't *that* fierce).

It's triple-ply wool yarn, spun from Dharma Trading's generic "wool roving" (which is actually pretty nice stuff) using home-made drop spindles. It was dyed as part of a natural dyes workshop with the historical group: dried curly dock seedheads for yellow (preceded by a 10% alum mordanting step), followed by an indigo (blue) overdye to get green.

I might have been a teensy bit disappointed by how pale the final color is, but it's still a nice light green, with some subtle variation in tone to give it depth (unlike commercial, perfectly-even dye jobs, which can look a little flat).

A close up:

Anyhoo, lotsa catching up to do; just watched "Let's Kill Hitler" the other day, finally, and need to get back to "Miracle Day" with ep. #5. No amazing thoughts to share on either, other than that I'm waiting to see where they both go with their respective ideas. Should be an interesting couple of rides, given Moffat and Davies' respective styles.
