The fire crackled as Miroku prodded at the wood, sending the embers into a blaze. Kagome sat close by, her geometry book opened while she scribbled furiously on her foreign paper, mumbling to herself under her breath.
Inuyasha grumbled and stretched out his legs, crossing his arms in a pout similar to a child, “I don’t understand why you think Naraku shouldn’t take priority over… whatever that is,” he gruffed and hunkered against the trunk of the tree he was leaned up against.
Miroku narrowed eyes on the hanyou, “Inuyasha,” he said sternly, chastising him.
Inuyasha grumbled, “We’re constantly having to stop our search to return to the village so you can go and do that --” he waved his hand irritably at the textbook in her lap with the odd language and symbols written across it's pages.
Kagome stared at him blankly, releasing a irritated sigh, “Inuyasha… this isn’t my time. When we defeat Naraku, you have to realize I’m going to go back to my regular life in my own time. So I need to do this if I want to do well for myself there.”
The hanyou’s ears flattened against his head, “Keh.”
Miroku lifted his cup of tea and took a sip, before glancing to Kagome, “Have you ever thought about living here… in this era?”
At the mention of the prospect of Kagome staying in their time, furry white triangles lifted and swiveled in her direction, wondering what her answer would be. Though he did not show it, Inuyasha waited on a baited breath, his scowl lighting only slightly.
Kagome pressed the end of her pencil to her lips, rubbing the soft eraser against the skin before shaking her head in thought, “No, I don’t think I could. I mean… I do have a family on my side that would be torn apart if I were to never come back.”
Aggravated and slightly hurt, Inuyasha stood abruptly and started to walk away from the camp. Kagome watched him leave before she glanced around the fire at her other companions, “What’s up with him?”
Sango and Miroku shared a pointed expression before the taijiya smiled kindly and patted her hand, “It’s alright Kagome. He’s probably still aggravated cause we’re returning to Kaede’s tomorrow.”
Kagome nodded before she waited several minutes, looking after where Inuyasha had disappeared into the foilage of the forest, then she turned her attention back to her studies, reminding herself the test was in only a few days.
