Sango glanced at her children as they played in Inuyasha’s lap, the girls were climbing over the hanyou, though Inuyasha kept silent and left them to their game that only the two of them knew how to play. Sango turned her attention back to her laundry as she scrubbed at the clothes in her bucket of soapy water.
“You didn’t go with Miroku today,” she ventured lightly, knowing Inuyasha heard her over the squeals of the children.
The hanyou’s ears flattened to his head when one of the twin’s laughter hit a high shrill, “Keh, it’s not like he can’t take care of himself.”
“I know that Inuyasha.” Sango paused, “Did you stay behind because of -- Inuyasha!”
Cutting her off from her train of thought, Inuyasha stood, the girls laughter loud as they clung to his haori, he plucked them from his clothes and dropped them into Sango’s lap. “I gotta go,” he gruffed, walking away from them down the shore of the river banks, showing that whatever Sango wanted to talk about he wanted no part in it.
Sango watched him as her daughters crawled out of her lap, “Hush, and help mommy with the laundry.” Their cheery voices chimed in with obedience as Sango followed the red of Inuyasha’s clothes, but he launched himself into the trees and disappeared from view.
With a heavy sigh, she went back to her task, knowing that even the passage of time could not curb the feelings of longing and emptiness Inuyasha felt without Kagome by his side. Three years Inuyasha had waited diligently for Kagome’s return, but most of them were loosing hope that she would, yet Inuyasha still held strong to his belief even if he didn’t voice it.
“She'll come back, Inuyasha,” Sango whispered, wishing Inuyasha would hear those words from her, but she knew he was far away by now, sulking and pinning for Kagome in the branches of the Goshinboku.
