Yesterday was the Corporate Challenge

As a runner, I had wanted to participate in the event, but you can only do so if your employer enters a team.  Last year, Time Warner entered, and I got to 'run'.  Now my attitude is, "yeah, I did that once".  The race is at 6PM.  A lot of the employers send a truck out in the morning to set up a pavillion with food for the runners.  I've seen everything from sandwiches and pop to lobster and champagne.  This means there are no parking spaces within a mile of the park.  It doesn't matter, the police will tag all cars within two miles of the park anyway, legally parked or not.   It's how they make their money.

In a normal race, there's less than 100 people, I've seen as few as 15.  After the starter's gun, the pack slowly separates out as the gazelles take the lead and the clydesdales drop back (These are standard terms, BTW, not insults)  And as people start to space out, you have room to run.  The Corporate Challenge has over 11,000 people, 99% of whom don't run in any other race.  They don't run the course, they walk it.  The pack NEVER separates out.  It's like trying to run through a crowded department store on the weekend before Christmas.

So, this year, I watched it on TV. :)
