Red Eye
Jess, Janel, Belle, and I made a mad dash to the theatre on the gamble that we'd still be able to get seats for the 10:40 showing though it was less than 20 minutes until showtime. Surprisingly there were still plenty of seats left, with some large enough spaces for us to sit as a group. The girls decided to sit in the back row of the bottom, floor section. I like to be able to see my movies, so I ventured up alone to the middle section.
Acting was great. Avoiding the deus ex machina syndrome of random people in the environment contributing to events, the non-starring supporting characters were given enough screen time prior to their "moments" that you never feel like they just suddenly appeared. (One such guy was sporting my nifty, thrifty Maxell headphones: a $20 pair that will easily stomp $50 Sony's.) Unfortunately, the final act falls back on killer/thriller mainstays (oh no! a murderer in my house! what corner is he waiting behind?!) that seem quite out of character based on the rather smart, intellectually-based preceedings.
That said, forget about the final act, and I'll gie it...oh, say three and a half stars (out of five).
