They answer the plea for help via the psychic paper and find a little boy who has real monsters in his room. The Doctor teaches the boy and his adoptive father to face their fears. Deciding that the Ponds need a bit of down time after all that drama he takes them to the second most popular vacation planet in the universe. Once there they are separated from Amy and learn that there is a plague going around that is only lethal to species with binary vascular systems. Because of the plague the hospital created a way to allow family and friends to enjoy the life of their sick loved ones by creating two time streams. When the Doctor locks onto Amy's time stream they discover it's been thirty-six years since they left her. Rory is sent to help older Amy. Their love is still strong and she agrees to help the young Amy, but only if they promise to also take Old Amy. The Doctor agrees, but he knows that the TARDIS cannot sustain the paradox of two Amys. When Rory finds and saves young Amy the Doctor forces him to choose which Amy will live. ( ... )

At Area 52 Amy shows the Doctor how the group has been capturing and containing the Silence. She brings him to River Song who is also wearing an eye patch. Apparently the patch allows the person wearing it to remember the Silence when they look away. The Doctor goes to touch River but she has him restrained as she knows that if they touch the timeline would return to the one where he dies. She shows him that they have taken prisoner Madam Kovarian who taunts them that the Silence only let them think they were captured, that it was all a plot to get the Doctor where they wanted him so that he could be killed. At this point the Silence begin to escape and all those wearing eye patches begin to experience extreme pain, some to the point of death, as the patches were created by the Silence. Rory stays behind as River, Amy, and the Doctor head to the top of the pyramid. Just as the Silence is about to kill Rory, Amy appears and kills them thus saving Rory who she realizes is the mysterious man from the other timeline. They join the Doctor ( ... )

Sometime in 1938, over Earth, the Doctor is setting a ship up to explode. Unable to reach an escape in time he falls to Earth using every last second to climb into an impact suit that was also falling from the ship. He lands somewhere in England and is helped to the TARDIS by a mother named Madge. He thanks her for the help and tells her that should she ever need anything to just wish and he would appear. Three years later the war is on and her husband is reported lost over the English Channel. Not wanting to ruin Christmas for her children she decides to wait to tell them until after Christmas. Because of the bombing the family heads out to the county estate of an uncle. The house is deserted and the only person around is the Caretaker...who is really the Doctor ( ... )

Personality:The Doctor is still the same grumpy old man with the enthusiasm of youth, but now he more fully understands the danger he puts his companions in by simply being around them. It's a shocking realization to say the least and it leaves him feeling more than a little guilty. More importantly he has confronted his mortality. Although he lived it still leaves that lingering feeling over him that his time will someday be up. This isn't a horrible feeling, but it's also not something he wishes to ever face again ( ... )
