I got my book and CD from Mark Ryden's "Blood" show. Whoa!!!! How to put into words what the paintings and music are like? Imagine a silent space where all you see are heavy red curtains covering the walls head to toe. You imagine the material smelling like a heady perfume that enters your lungs and finds solace within your air sacs never to be shaken out again. If you touch these curtains perhaps you will disappear into the many folds. And come out on the other side where miniature paintings of wide-eyed innocents stare back at you. They look niether lonely nor sad but almost resigned and tranquil while the blood runs in rivulets from the tops of their heads, from the corners of their eyes, flowing in a stream down their delicate milk-white bodies. You want to lick a drop of it just to see what it would taste like. The only painting in this series that does not feature blood but something far more melancholy that reaches deep inside is the painting on my LJ entitled "40". If only I could afford to buy it!
All the tracks on the CD are the titles to the paintings. Beautifully morbid music best heard while in mourning. It goes well with the red curtains, the milk-white bodies, the wide-staring eyes that you could walk across, cutting your feet upon their sharp gazes as you make your way to their black centers, and the blood that seeks to be out. This is who I need. Someone who understands this about me.
If interested go check out markryden.com I've been following his work for years. Trust me it's good. And you can always see into another's personality by what she finds beautiful and good.
Ciao!
