Cake Shift

Oct 12, 2010 23:37

I'm going to start blogging more positively about my trade and Monkeytech. Don't take this as sudden job satisfaction, fuck that shit. I'm just changing the spin on my work place experience.

The first two days of dayshift were very busy but since I have Grumpy John with me for the first six hours of my day the workload is manageable. I don't have to run around like a loony trying to keep up with 7+ machines. I have time to think rather than merely reacting to what needs to be done at any given moment.

The new schedule is not perfect, but it's not nights. I work 7am to 6pm and I'll be doing a half shift on Saturday. The overtime is helpful.

We're so busy it's almost stupid and if you know anything about economic indicators manufacturing is a great measure of an economy rebounding. I hear we're not alone in seeing business return. People are making stuff. Good news.

Cheryl does graphic design. She has the floor plan of the new house with drag & drop footprints of our furniture. Yeah, it's anal, but it's cool. There's more furniture than house, but this was expected. On the other hand we need to buy things, like bar stools. I have to sell my billiards table. There's no room for it. It's a shame but considering how often we use it, no big deal. But it makes a great laundry folding table.

I arrived at Monkeytech Monday as if I was facing my usual 10+ hour solo flight. I was in high gear, ready to rumble. It will take a week to acclimate myself to cake shift. I can work hard and still have time on my hands. Automation is like that. Production is not always hands on. We multi-task at a level most people can't imagine.

There's always a side project, improvement, you never find time for. Day shift is a piece of cake. I will have time for some ideas I have.

We really need to have a yard sale but who has the time for that? I must unload a comfy love seat with ottoman and a futon I hate getting rid of. I don't want to sell my Ikea desk. I will find a way to fit that in the move if I have to put it on the roof.

I've heard so many tales of people raping and pillaging their homes before they move on. I could never do that. My house is not perfect but it will be in the best shape it can be in when I leave. Five appliances will be here. I'll come back to steam the carpets. The landscaping will be done. It's a nice house. Hopefully a realtor will find a buyer and my bank will play ball with them.

I will miss the his & hers sinks we have in the master bath. I took them for granted.

I really shouldn't be up this late but I'm not sleepy. I can get by in 5 hours sleep and unless some smokin' hot project is thrust upon me tomorrow I will have a good day. I know exactly what we have to get done, no problemo. Grumpy John and I are highly productive when we work together.

I have to sell my lawn mower. The new place is 100% desert landscape. I bought it off Craigslist it will go away via CL.  Does anyone neeed a rubbermade plastic shed?

Even thought I don't get home until 7pm, it's great to be home in the evening and spending a little time with James and Cheryl, Even if we're doing next to nothing.

I apologize for the boring-as-algebra blog post.
