back from kerrville

we're back from texas and i've managed to catch up on laundry and uploading photos. just in time for a slew of houseguests (starting yesterday)!

i must say, this year's kerrville was a very nostalgic one. i ran into a couple of people i hadn't seen in 10+ years. interesting how so much time can seem like a chasm and a blip at the same time. also interesting how people i haven't seen in so long hold intimate parts of my past.

there was a kerr-demic on the ranch this year. i would say at least 50% of staff got sick. it only lasted 24-48 hours (or less for some), but it's definitely draining when you're camping in the hot texas sun. it felt very apocalyptic at times, but i think that's colored by the fact that i read Stephen King's The Stand the last time i was on the ranch. nothing like an apocalyptic plague novel to make you paranoid about a rampant bug. despite all that, people had a good festival.

the above license plate we found in the parking lot, snapped on the way back from a river run.

our tent freshly set up and bed made. it never looked this neat again. we got several comments about how we have such a small tent for a couple, but a small tent means we can tuck it away in a spot that will hopefully have some shade. that texas sun is brutal, especially in an environment where staying up late at night is encouraged.

my mom & jack came to the fest for a night. it was a bit hectic because my crew is far busier on the weekends, but it was good to see them and they had a good time. especially since Peter Yarrow finally plaed Puff, the Magic Dragon, as i assured her he would (he always does).

my mom caught me at the register on my first shift on my new crew.

mike rented a plane and took some people up for a birds' eye tour of the ranch and neighboring hill country.

erik is a HUGE blast from my past. we were close in high school, but haven't been in touch in over 12 years. i used to go to his house and watch a lot of Smiths videos. he was actually present at my very first kerrville (a friend's mom brough 14 14-15 year olds. it was interesting to say the least). he plays music now and even jammed with dan a few times.

here's another part of the old school/nostalgia aspect of my festival. i haven't seen kristene in 10 or more years. we had many old tales to discuss. she now has 2 daughters and is a pastor's wife, but i was glad to see we still have a lot in common. craftiness and horror-movie love, ahoy!

on the left is reed, who, one very drunken (on his part) night, managed to remind me of an incident i had so completely forgotten, i denied vehemently for several minutes. hrmmmm, not the first time i've taken a revisionist approach to the past.

sefi making good use of the most popular chair in our campground. sefi is a fellow texan i met when i lived in israel. i'm very glad i managed to drag him down to kerrville a few years ago, because he + the festival are a perfect match.

dan looking very kerr

dave got all dolled up one night. there are some more photos in this series. click to see the rest of my flickr photos in the set.

the Shower with a Kerrvert program is raising money for the new staff showers by selling shower tiles one can decorate. they'll be used in the building of the new showers. seeing as it's crafty, i couldn't resist. dan's tile is the green one; mine is the blue.

yes, i knit during some of the shows. jenniferblaufra, i think you can make out james in the background of this one.

some shots of Staff Concert

those were some of the highlights, but the entire set of kerrville shots are here.

for some of the short movie files we took, see here. (the last 3 are the flying videos)
