Boston Legal - Philip Quast - Ross Ryan

Jan 13, 2009 20:08

You know how nothing happens for ages and then suddenly fandom pounces?

Anyway, I'm sure I've had the Boston Legal conversation with more than one person, but I can't remember exactly who besides housepiglet. captain_tulip, I think. Anyway, I've finally gotten around to watching an episode (the first episode of Season 2, randomly), and it's not bad at all, although I ( Read more... )

I don't think you'll ever be truly satisfied from a slashers point of view with Boston Legal, but Denny and Alan's "bromance" will grow on you. I started watching it because, funnily enough, it was on just after House and I had nothing better to do, and after all the House/Wilson goodness that House dolls out it's hard to drum up the same excitement for slashless Boston Legal. But I don't know ... their balcony scenes ...

It's like slash without the sex. I can't explain it. It just makes me giddy. :D After a couple of Alan's speeches about best friends and the loss of genuine affection in today's world and talks of "sleepovers"... I can honestly say I was both hooked and satisfied.

But also? It did take me a while. (Read: two years). Platonic love does not oft a fangirl make. But it succeeded with me. :D

Hee - that's Big Ted, from Play School, which Philip did for years and years.

For example, here is Philip having a bath. If you follow the page back, you can also hear him being a train, asserting his ability to fly, and offer to take you riding in his car, amongst other things *g*

Denny and Alan are probably my favorite BFF's on television ever. David E. Kelley doesn't even do subtext. They exchange 'I love you's' all the time and they have sleepovers. Their deep friendship becomes even more touching in the later seasons when Denny's 'Mad Cow' gets worse. I dunno, they just make me go 'Awwww' a lot.

I never thought I would say this, but Shatner can act, the role of Denny Crane is just perfect for him and the Emmy people agree with that. Spader is equally perfect as Alan Shore.

Boston Legal is one of my favorite shows ever, I miss it so much :(

Dare I ask, what is this 'Mad Cow' thing? XD

And are they meant to be of equal rank? I've just watched S1E1 and it seems like Crane is a partner, and Shore is lower down the food chain, but I admit I'm not clear on this point. But I do think it suits Shatner very well. He puts his intrinsic charm - even in Star Trek I grudgingly admitted he had this - to good use ;)

Hey, I appreciate the detail - that explains a lot. Although I really have to go back and work out who Jerry is XD

I did watch The Practice, but yeah, it was only on and off, and I gave up after a few seasons - can't remember how many, but probably three or so, so I didn't realise there was any connection between Shore and The Practice! But I can see that's a good way to launch a character :)
