EUREKA!

Just cause I can't read doesn't mean I can't post.

Anyway, watched the Dark Is Rising movie today. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Have read that many, including the author of the novels, were very unhappy with the movie version. I think one critic who argued that the similarities to the Potter story were misconstrued by most of its critics as being "ripped off" (decades preemptively). Anyway, curiosity lead me to the wikipedia entry and I'm tempted to order the books. I'm in the mood for some lighter fare and this stuff looks interesting.

No, I'm not saying that to dis child/young adult literature, just that when you compare it to more "mature" fiction or historical/non-fiction books it tends to read more quickly and leisurely, which is nice from time to time. Not every book I read has to be a freaking exercise in historical analysis or a social criticism wrapped up in sex and narrative.

I digress. Have any of you read these that can advise one way or the other? Am considering picking up these, His Dark Materials, American Gods, and/or Curse of Lono. This isn't the first time I've had this series of books mentioned to me, just the first time I haven't had such a massive backlog of reading to do that I could look into reading something.

Not that I have copious time to read or anything, just that it'd be nice to do so, and I could do with a break from Pahlinuk and I'm not in the mood for a Thompson journalism anthology.

So Dark is Rising...good stuff?

stuff, movies, books
