[couldn't make my inner Kevin Walker flail and snark properly, so you'll get him second-hand. If I can work him up into a good lather later, I'll post something from his POV.]

It's been two weeks exactly since they crashed, and Kate's surprised that they're still discovering new people every day. This one has to be new, right? Surely a guy that good-looking wouldn't have escaped her notice. He obviously hasn't escaped Claire's.

"Wow," Kate says, dropping down onto the sand beside the pregnant girl. "Who's the hot guy talking to Jack?"

Claire giggles, then she pokes Kate in the ribs. "Stand in line, okay. I saw him first," she says with a sparkle in her eye, like they're two girlfriends out for the evening, not two near strangers stranded on a deserted island. It's nice, a nice distraction.

Kate snorts, and Claire says, "Hey, maybe he thinks pregnant women are radiant and beautiful."

"Yes, you're heavenly, like an angel," Kate says, "but I'm guessing by the looks of him that he does not need an angel. He definitely wants a bad girl, whether he knows it or not."

Definitely, right? She can see how clenched up he is, even from yards away. It's in his straight-backed posture and his sharp gesticulations, even in the way his mouth never closes, even when he's listening to Jack talk. Tightly wound, always in control-he'd want someone who could coax him into letting go a little.

A shadow moves over them as someone comes to block their view. Sawyer grins down at them, looking like the cat that got the canary.

"Glad you think I have a chance, Freckles," he says.

"What?"

"That there, since it seems you haven't already been introduced, is Kevin Walker. I know you haven't been introduced because if you had you'd know he's about as straight as Mamacita's hair. And he's a cranky son of a bitch, let me tell you. You wouldn't want him."

"Oh?" Kate says, narrowing her eyes at him.

"Suspicious of everything, from what I can tell. Scavenged everything I haven't already. It's damn impressive."

Kate raises an eyebrow. "Uh huh."

"What? I ain't never said I'm blind. He's about the hottest thing going, suit and tie and all. Give me some time, I'll win him over."

But Claire's giggling. "Unless you've got competition."

Kate swings her gaze just in time to see Kevin cock his head to the side, light eyes crinkling up into a self-deprecating but genuine smile. Jack's face instantly blooms into a smile, too, and he ducks his head and rubs his hand back over in and down his neck, looking up at Kevin and laughing at something. Doesn't matter what, Sawyer's already groaning.

"Goddamn," he mutters.

"And just who are you jealous of, Sawyer?" Claire says, nudging his bare leg with her elbow.

He frowns. "Well it sure as fuck ain't you two," he grouses, wandering away. He tosses back over his shoulder, loudly: "Mooning over an uptight guy you don't have a chance in hell with."

Kate ducks her head away and Claire covers her mouth, but they're pretty sure he knows they're giggling at him anyway.

Very nice, me likey. Thank you. :)

I love your Sawyer in this. LOVE! And if you can coax some Kevin snark out I'd love it any ole time you can come up with it.

Oh, ahaha. I ♥ your icon. :)

Glad you enjoyed it. I'll work on the Kevin snark. It's in there--I can hear him as clear as day--but it refused to be rushed. Anybody in particular you'd like to see at a crazy Walker dinner?

Um, how about Hurley or Charlie? Also, I wouldn't be opposed to Sawyer, but I'm not sure how his Sawyerness would gel with the Walkers. :D
