Cynicalsnark's A(V)AA: Day 02

Jul 25, 2011 21:27

When we last left our heroine, she was fighting pirates on a flying cloud ship, trying to rescue Japanese boyband members and Jose Mourinho from evil ninjas. While this sounds completely feasible, I regret to inform you that I was in Kentucky.

Day 02:

7:00 Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs. Gotta have my cereal--basically did those things, while my parents chatted with a lovely Wisconsin couple who seemed amazed to have met Canadians that seemed normal. We're not all Mounties.

9:10 HOLY SHIT THERE'S A TIM HORTONS HERE?

11:00 We arrive in Nashville, Tennessee. Everywhere keeps advertising it as the "Music City". Also, I have discerned that my cousin lives in some region populated by people who live in vast estates, or at the very least--are upper middle class. Additionally, there are motherfuckin' COWS down the road. I want to run out there and spook them.

12:00 Realized I am now living in Central time. It's like going through a time machine, only not really. Have also learned that my nephews are two of the cutest beings to ever come into existence. The 4 year old told me he wants to be an eye doctor when he grows up (Asian parents play tapes while their fetuses are in the womb informing them that the only careers that exist are doctors, nurses, engineers, or lawyers.). Later he told me he'd also like to be a T-rex when he grows up. I love him.

3:00 Did the tourist thing--went to the Grand Ole Opry (only to realize it's really only open when there's someone actually singing there), the Country Music Hall of Fame, and Vanderbilt University (Insert subtle only not rly references to my future and education by my relatives right about here. Wonderful.)

4:00 Went to Third Man Records--the recording studio/concert hall run predominantly by Jack White of White Stripes fame. Really it was only one room that doubled as a gift shop, but we saw the original "Fell in Love with Girl" legos and other memorbilia. I'm a fan, but my middle sister freaked the shit out. I bought her a limited edition Conan O'brien and Stephen Colbert LP (Both produced and featuring Jack White), and some White Stripes merch for her birthday. At least for a couple days, she will be in awe of me.

6:00 Ate authentic southern barbeque at an authentic southern bbq pit. Tons of food was served on the lids of garbage cans which I assume was for ~ambience~ I don't know. Also I finally tried a pulled pork sandwich after seeing tons of them on The Food Network. It was pretty damn good--there's a reason BBQ is supposed to be the South's thing. When asked by a waiter what Canada's thing was, my sisters and I looked at each other and were like "IDK....poutine? I guess?" Fellow Canadians, do we have a food thing? Maple syrup?

Getting ready to bunk at my cousin's house. Wi-fi is the bomb. Spam y'all soon.

why am i so rly boring?, american vacation
