I love the idea of UNREAL candy. Haven’t heard of them? Don’t worry. I hadn’t either, but their catch phrase is unjunked junk food. I’ve been trying to be healthier this year and more aware of the foods I am eating, so this was right up my alley. No artificial colors or flavors, no hydrogenated oils, no corn syrups, no preservatives, no GMOs? In a candy? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! Sign me up! Where can I get them? Let me at them!
I was so eager to try this, but the question of where I could find them became a bit of a difficulty. I knew they were sold at Walgreens, but I couldn’t seem to locate them in the first store I went to and none of the salespeople seemed to know what I was talking about when I inquired about it. I checked another Walgreens and after scanning and rescanning the candy section, finally managed to locate UNREAL on an end cap in clearance. As I had never heard of UNREAL and assumed it was a newer product, I was a bit shocked to see it in clearance.
I ended up getting UNREAL 8, a chocolate caramel peanuts nougat bar that is basically the equivalent of a Snickers. While I was really impressed that it had almost half of the sugar of a regular Snickers, my positive feelings ended there. I really wanted to like it, but something about the texture of the product seemed off. The nougat was sort of gritty rather than smooth and it left an odd taste in my mouth. I don’t allow myself treats that often so when I do, I want them to feel and taste like treats. This didn’t really do either. Next time, I think I’ll stick with the Snickers.
