If the comics I read regularly are the stalwarts, the webcomics are the "occasionals". Maybe I used to read them regularly, maybe I've always just dipped in and out, but I somehow find myself returning every few months and getting caught up on everything that happened since my last visit ( Read more... )

If there's one thing that's changed about my life during the pandemic, it's that I am reading many fewer books. As I've mentioned before, part of this is just that I don't have many books left in the house that I want to read, and M isn't super comfortable with the idea of curb-side for the library. This past weekend was actually rather slow in terms of events, if not in terms of errands.

M & I had both had very stressful weeks, so on Friday night we made dinner in (sweet potato soup) and then wandered over to Red Rose for a few drinks and the end of the Tribe game. This was followed by going to bed early.

This year I read 48 prose books and 32 graphic novels, with one poetry collection thrown in for good measure, for 81 in total. That's up substantially from last year's 68, but most of that growth came in comics. I actually read fewer prose novels than last year, and far more comics. Before I got married in Portland in 2008, I had never been to the state of Oregon. Later that same year my sister and I drove along the northern border of Oregon as we navigated the Columbia River Gorge from east to west en route to Seattle via Portland. Things have slowed down a bit in the summer due to a lack of free/cheap tickets, but I did see Stars at the Beachland in June with xhollydayx, pianodan and drdingbat. They played all of their new album, which is excellent, and then they played a set of songs chosen by fans on their website, which were also excellent. It was a good time.
