We've reached the end of the series, because the 13th and final province/territory is Nunavut, which was only split off from the Northwest Territories in 1999. I've never been there, which means our final list looks like this:

I've not been to either the tenth province, Newfoundland and Labrador, or the first territory, the Northwest Territories, so we move along to the second territory, the Yukon.

You're going to note a lot of similarities between my time in Alberta, the ninth province and my trips to British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Once again the big childhood trip and the drive down from Alaska will figure prominently, but at least I actually did some things in Alberta. Saskatchewan and Alberta joined the Confederation on the same day, but Saskatchewan gets to be the eighth province because it had the larger population of the two on that day. Since then, Alberta has far outstripped Saskatchewan in population ( Read more... )

Prince Edward Island calls itself the "Cradle of Confederation" because it hosted the original meeting discussion Confederation, but somehow kept from joining the Confederation until six years after the first four provinces. As a result, PEI is the seventh province.

My total lifetime journeys to British Columbia are two in number. Neither of those trips took my anywhere near Vancouver. As I have two different households of good friends there, that is a likely travel target for the future.

Manitoba was the fifth province to join the Confederation. More relevantly, it was just north of my home state of North Dakota. The capital of Winnipeg is a scant three hours north of my hometown. When I was a kid, the close proximity, cultural attractions and an extremely favorable exchange rate led us to taking many long weekends up to Winnipeg. ( Read more... )

The fourth and final of the first four provinces to join the Confederation is New Brunswick. As of this writing, New Brunswick was the last province I added to my list, and the only province that is represented solely by a single solitary meal as I drove through it.
