So I was playing the
story mode of DOA 5 last night with the wife, and I noticed that all of the
white people from non-American countries spoke with their respective accents.
(Helena spoke with a French accent, Bayman with a Russian accent, Christina with
an English accent etc.) However all of the Asians from non-American countries
spoke English with perfect American/Canadian accents. So I’ve come to the
conclusion that either Asia’s foreign language education system is the best in
the world, or more likely, the localization team was afraid of being racist so
they completely cut out the Asian accents for fear of some kind of backlash.
I don’t want to turn the second post on this blog into some kind of
angry-white-man race bait troll, so let me just say this: I feel like Americans,
(and to a lesser degree Europeans) are like the awkward kid at the ethnicity
prom. We want to do what is right, make friends, and flirt with the pretty
girls, but whenever we try to do the right thing by way of our peers, we just
manage to screw everything up. Since I know that some people on the internet get
very sensitive about matters of race and discussing race, I’ll leave it at
that.
I find the whole idea of Ayane speaking English a bit weird anyway. I have to
figure out how to switch everyone back to Japanese like in the previous DOA
games. There is something to be said for Itagaki wanting the game to be kept in
its original language.
On New Years Eve we had our annual 20 Sided Designs NYE party at Pokemon Star
Wars Fairy Dragon house. It was pretty damn awesome, and I’m in the mood to post
pics, but sadly, Wordpress is giving me guff about uplaoding pics. I'm not sure
what the problem is at the moment, but I don't have time to troubleshoot. I'll
upload the pics some other time. If you really want to see them they are on my
facebook.
