Annus Mirabilis

Jan 02, 2013 12:01

So this is the new year. The eggnog has been drunk, the cookies have been eaten. We’ve hopefully all spent some time with our family, or at least spoke to them on the phone over the long distances. The parties are all over and the revelry has quieted back into the humdrum.

Where I live in South Philly, there are still remnants of the parade on Broad Street, and bits of silly-string decorate the houses, the trees, the cars, and hell even the asphalt. But the neighbourhood always goes quiet, especially compared to how wild it is. It’s a drastic change from the loud, wild parties of the last night of the year, and the first day of the year. In Philadelphia (like many cities) we literally have people dancing in the streets, especially on Broad Street and Second Street.

So here I am, on my first work-day of 2013, and I’m updating my blog. This is my second blog, but I will also update my old Livejoural with all my updates from this blog. I’m just going to disable the comments, I’d rather people comment here than on LJ (that is if anyone is out there to comment)

So why am I starting this blog? Well, I read somewhere that if you are going to write a book. You should start promoting your book at least three years in advance. I’m not saying that I’ll have a book in three years, but I’m certainly going to try for one. So 2016 will be the year of my book…I expect that to get pushed back to 2020!
I have a few short stories that I consider readable, at least not as embarrassing as my past efforts. I still have a lot to learn. 2012 was a good year for me in terms of writing. While I don’t have anything published in a respectable, publishing-style magazine or website, I do have work out there on the web that is getting favourable results. I’m of the computer/videogame generation, and I know how to use these tools to promote myself. I belong to a great art group that is very active, and I’ve been writing a webcomic for the last, goddess knows how many years. It’s time I turn my focus and efforts into other things as well. I may succeed. I may crash and burn. I’ll be happy if I can survive.

Onward and outward, and I’ll see where I end up.
