Hmmm, maybe I should try that with that finance company that keeps calling and calling and calling. Not for us, but for a friend of my SO, who gave them our number as a way to get a message to her...now, how do you say, I'm sorry, I don't understand in french?

Here are a few other words in french:
Quoi? (What?!?) Je ne peut pas vous comprendre (I can't understand you) Je ne parle pas l'anglais (I don't speak english) Vous devez parlez en francais! (you must speak in french)
Also, the french speak with a bit more of a nasal tone; just don't over do it.
But yeah... answering the phone with a very english 'Hello' is a bit of a giveaway. Something more like an 'ah-lo' is a little less obvious.

yeah... most of we get is Spanish. The complete lack of any accent when picking up and saying 'hello' is a dead give away that the person does speak English. 99.9% of the time, someone who really has no English will answer with "bueno"
