Okay so I got bored of playing with decorations (and I didn't have the time, energy or money to play with decorations) So I decided to play with flavours for a while.
So I present to you...
Chocolate and Orange Cupcakes with Orange buttercream
The orange and chocolate mix really well in the cakes because the orange is more subtle, and then the icing is really tangy and yummy. I had a load of the buttercream left over so I froze it- I can see me making more of these soon!
To make them I just did my normal cake mix, then put crap loads of cocoa powder to make it really chocolaty and then zest of an orange and squeezed the juice od half the orange in (but watch out for pips!)
To do the buttercream, put the butter in a bowl, squeeze out the other half of the orange. Whisk that together, then add in the icing sugar. Then put a little bit of zest in to make it look pretty ^_^
(Note: I ran out of icing sugar so the icing isn't as stiff as I would normally do BUT that meant that the orange flavour nice and strong, and it still worked out alright =P)
Okay I have a confession... These weren't originally Cupcakes... I wasn't entirely experimenting with flavours because of the above reasons... we got a new cake tin and I wanted to play =/ I had leftover mixture so I made 2 cupcakes...
But look how pretty it is!
