Chicago-Adjacent, Day Something

We've been here since Tuesday and it's Saturday. You do the math.

It's still around 100 degrees, which has me staggering around like I've had ti many martoonies. Have to use my cane all the time. I've noticed that people who have known me for years haven't asked me why I'm using it. I guess they think I might be embarrassed.

Last night we went into the city for dinner, and saw a production of "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" at the Lookingglass Theater. They partnered with Actors Gynasium, so that all four actors not only were excellent at their multiple characters, they also did quite a bit of acrobatic work as well! It was theater in the round.

The set-up was what actually happened, a ghost story competition between Lord Byron, Dr. Polidori, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley and her half-sister Claire, who was pregnant with Percy's child. It started from there, and then became the story. But at times it suddenly became the origin story again, which gave it a whole new level of meaning. The play was done as a horror play, and was extremely effective. I'm so glad we saw it.

Prior to that we had a mediocre dinner at a famous fish restaurant, Devon's Seafood Grill.

The most incredible and wonderful part of this story is that one of the desk clerks, John, had called a doctor on my behalf the day before yesterday, since I've been so woozy and sleeping all of the time. The doctor called from a service in NYC and it was so expensive it wasn't worth it. The next day John said he'd been worried about me. So rather than let us take the train in the 100+ degree he ordered and paid for round-trip Uber!!! And wouldn't let us reimburse him! That's one of the kindest things any stranger has ever done for me. He only asked that I pay it forward.
