Just went to the gym for the first time this year. I went to the "martial" aerobics class... I think I strained a few muscles. Maybe I should have eased into it since I have only done minimal exercise (jogging a bit) since the black belt grading!

Our new laser arrived. It's a 50 W fiber laser and is 1064 nm. It can make holes in things, though that is not what we will use it for.

It looks like we might buy a frequency comb. These things are pretty cool. I don't know the details of how they work, but essentially you put in ultrashort pulses of single wavelength ( Read more... )

The replacement magnetic trap should be ready tomorrow today. This one has colour-coded heat shrink goodness for easy identification and more insulation. I'll be doing some tests with it this week and adding on all the extra coils (one set of coils can be re-used from the previous trap, but I have to make the rest up again). Today I did something I thought I wouldn't, and bought skinny jeans. They are red and black and don't make my tighs look big. My main complaint with straight-legged jeans on women is that they make average weight people look fat (people already quite thin look fine).
