On this day...
... in 1701, Yale was chartered.
... in 1930, Laura Ingalls (not as in Wilder) became the first woman to complete a solo transcontinental airplane flight.
... in 1940, John Lennon was born.
On this day in my life, I took a brief breath. All this past week, I've been trying to do double duty with my transcripts to make up for the two weeks I'm going to lose going to visit my family in Alabama (I fly out on Thursday and won't be back until Sunday the 22nd). In addition, it was
Apple Butter weekend (y'all, I spent EIGHT AND A HALF HOURS there on Saturday with Mike, his sister, her boyfriend, a Swedish coworker of Mike's and the Swedish guy's fiance) so we had visitors (see the aforementioned group).
Then my dad came in yesterday morning (about 20 minutes after we all woke up, so there were four people and three dogs scrambling to get up, showered, dressed and presentable in 20 minutes--we are miracle workers) and he and Mike went back to the festival for two or three hours, joined by my aunt Sue, her husband and their three daughters (who also made a stop by our house to use the bathroom...eight people is a pretty big number for a one-bathroom house...and drop off their motorbike that was broken so Mike could fix it and other random things like that).
Mike and Dad spent the remainder of the day watching football (Eagles versus Dallas...Mike's a die-hard Eagles fan, Dad's a die-hard Dallas fan, I thought I was going to have to install barbed wire in the living room between the two) and Dad took off this morning so I didn't get to see him much.
I should mention how good to me the men in my life were this weekend. For one, Mike sacrificed pretty much his entire weekend to entertain so I could try to get as much work done as possible. That was incredibly sweet of him. Also, he bought me an amazing new jacket at the festival on Saturday. It's a gorgeous denim peacoat with lace and beading along the sleeves. I'll have to get a picture of it and post it somehow. And then Dad found out (through Mike) that I had spotted a beautiful handmade silver and pearl necklace at the festival on Saturday so he bought it for me when they went on Sunday and surprised me with it. So, I really shouldn't complain...BUT...
I didn't get much done. I mean, I did, but I could have gotten a LOT more done if people had listened to me in the first place when I said, "No, please do not come on Sunday, I cannot visit with you, I have to work."
All right, complaining is done. Back to enjoying my guys and ...well, working.
