... Or rather, what I do in-between classes.
Or if I'm seated at the back of the classroom and the professor is delivering a boring lecture. Yes, THAT.
Teaser:
Hmm... Now doesn't this look familiar?
BEWARE: Image-heavy...
So you've just stumbled upon my sketches, which I actually do at the back of my school notebook. So the funny thing is, from the front onwards, it's all lecture notes. And then starting from the back of the notebook is this multitude of sketches. Some are from another school notebook because I ran out of space. xD
Admittedly, I'm not that really skillful in drawing since I don't practice it as often as I do writing. My main problem is drawing characters' eyes, especially when it's very intricate, and most often the proportion of the hand and the fingers, sometimes even the body when it's a full or half-body pic. Most of the time it comes out looking too thin or too fat. Pfft. I have no sense of proportion xD That's why majority of the sketches seem dirty somehow due to constant erasure on my part.
Another thing, and probably very important, is that I can't draw any character like this by myself, by my own imagination. I need to be copying or following a picture and I'll draw it, just like with the Black Magician Girl teaser and the icon. Actually, all of these sketches are imitated from various established pictures I've saved from sites like Photobucket or Minitokyo or from manga. No, I don't exactly trace the picture on the paper. I'd either print the picture or save it in my phone and that's where I look and reference as I draw it. I have a really hard time drawing whatever I think or whatever image I see in my head. It certainly won't look as decent as these drawings, well, if you do consider them that.
So what else is weird about my sketches? Ah, the lack of color? Yup. Coloring is one of my weak points and oftentimes if I do it on any drawing of mine, it turns out worse so I opt for pencil shading like this. The photos may be blurry or too light, sorry about that, the scanner here is broken and I had to resort to manually taking a photo of each sketch.
Here we have 7 sketches of D.N.Angel characters, one of my older fandoms. The story about this is that one of my classmates who is seated two seats away from me brought to school her D.N.Angel manga. It's the official English-translated version by Tokyopop. So I borrowed it and doodled in my free time because the professor back then always arrived late, in addition to it being a minor subject that needed no advanced reviewing before class. There are a lot of characters in that manga/anime but ahaha you can probably sense why there are only 3 characters in my sketches: Dark Mousy, Niwa Daisuke and Hiwatari Satoshi.
After that stint, it became my pastime in-between classes or in lunch breaks after eating or when there's no exam to review for, to draw so I got some of my saved anime pictures on my laptop and started drawing whenever I had the time. The next set of sketches has two pictures: Left is my drawing, Right is the original. By the way, I don't remember where I got the originals and credit is due to the original artists.
Here's a character who's probably familiar in the world of mahou shoujo genre anime: Kinomoto Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura. I admit it was hard to get her hair right, hence why I used really light strokes.
And then the main couple of Gundam SEED series: Kira Yamato and Lacus Clyne.
From Fate/Stay Night, Saber in a school uniform! Though because I couldn't draw her fingers right with the distance to her mouth, I had to replace the bread with a book. Uh, she isn't eating it. xP
And then it's two ladies from Code Geass, Euphie and C.C.
For Euphie, OMG I MESSED UP HER EYES SO T.T In the original, it was very complex and hard to get the spaces and shades of her eyes right. In the end, I had to ask my good friend and classmate who is into drawing anime characters as well to fix it... Admittedly it looked okay to me when I hadn't drawn her face yet...
This very last one is a rather old drawing of mine, it's drawn on a smaller paper. I think I drew it back in high school when I was just struck by the desire to draw something... Yeah...
I may not be taking art seriously as a career, since it's more of a hobby for me and I'm more comfortable with writing, but if I can improve, I won't say no.
Sooooo... Any advice? Or is it beyond hope? xD Just kidding. Comments or suggestions would be very much appreciated. <3
