I haven't written for a long, long time. When I first started this whole project Sophie was in a sleeping phase. Then she transitioned into a non-sleeping phase, hence my noted absence. Well, I won't say that she wasn't sleeping at all, she was, she was just sleeping in short stints, you know 15 or 20 minutes. That's long enough to load the dishwasher or read an article in the paper or make and eat some food. And these are all the types of things I was doing when Sophie slept. You learn to do the absolutely essential things first because you never know how long you have to spare.
Anyway, it turns out that all this sleeplessness and fussiness have an explanation. Sophie just cut her FIRST TOOTH. 5.5 months old and already popping teeth. She's growing up so fast. We had to buy a new car seat for her this weekend.
Also, this weekend I helped my sister (Adria) and her husband (Tom) move into the house they just bought. It's very exciting. She's looking very pregnant now. Not as pregnant as Simone looks in the new photo, but she is a month behind Simone.
I can't decide if I'm jealous or not that all the rest of you get to LOOK pregnant for so long. I only got to really show off my pregnant body in the last two months. That photo of my belly with the henna was two weeks before Sophie was born (one week before my due date). She looked small from the outside, but she came out quite a decent sized baby (8lbs 3oz).
The weekend before last Shamus and Sophie and I drove to Seattle to go to Ikea. Can you believe we drove for six hours to go to a store! But it was fun. We stayed the night in Seattle and had brunch with my great aunt and uncle and purchased some practical and decorative items. We spent all day on Monday putting bookshelves together, rearranging our living room and hanging art. [Long pause as Sophie wakes up crying and nurses back to sleep] Exhausting, but well worth it.
I went on an interview last week for a job with the Oregon Winegrowers' Association. It'll be a few weeks before I know anything.
