A Snow Go

Mar 05, 2009 02:24

Another February gone. Good. Now that I'm safe in March, I'll throw out the updates. Here's some of what I've been doing since last time.

SCHOOL

I wonder how long this can last sometimes.

I can't complain for the most part. I've handed in tests and papers; most were really good and some were okay. I still need to get to the earlier classes on time and not put off writing stuff until just prior to that class time. Spanish, especially. I missed a few in there, and our teacher got swapped out like, four times, and I have no idea what the fuck's going on there. Everything else has been all right, I suppose. I've been hanging around dudes, going to other people's apartments and hanging around there, avoiding work on the weekends, taking semi-meaningless drives on the weekends, sighing, actually kind of cleaning my fucking room for once, walking around town for no reason, still sleeping during odd hours. Things like that, and other things I'm not so sure of.

SHOWS

Oh yeah, I'm actually really getting back into these. There have been a lot of good shows booked close to here as of late, so there should be plenty more coming in here. Here's what I've gone to, though.

*Caught the tail end of a Powerman 5000 set in January. They've still got it. Shit, they have these bitchin' new helmets, too. I was impressed. I saw Mark and Chris there too, they said Hidden Soul's gone. Oh well, the music industry's falling apart, so at least they didn't spend too much time clawing at that door.

*Saw Biohazard late last year. Tail end, and I should have already updated about it, but I don't think I did, so that's why it's going in here. They still have it too. Big congrats to them, since I think they're at their 20 year mark.

*One Friday, I took a drive back up to the Cafe Metro. It's been awhile since I've been there. I saw Tombs. They're relatively new, and might have to get their distortion situated a bit better, but it was a good show. I caught The Wayward there as well, and they did a good job with their grungier work. Tombs was headlining, and man, their set was super loud. I could hardly hear the drums behind the ultra-thick guitar distortion, much less their singer's voice. I moved around a little and the set got clearer towards the end. Their album's worth it, too, as well as their singer's old band. I talked to them a bit about their drunken stories and how their drummer wants to see a tornado kind of. I might see them again soon; they're NYC based, so northeast coast locales are almost home to them.

*Another Friday took me back to the Croc to see The Number 12 Looks Like You. I thought most of the opening bands were kind of gay and obviously myspace flashy, so I passed on them. They were down a singer, but still sounded good. Croc's basement was small and intimate, too intimate for one (somewhat out-of-place) black man who triggered a fight, but the closeness made for a good show otherwise. Jase got nice and personal and came out onto the floor arm-in-arm with the crowd. He pulled out a megaphone too, which was a nice touch. #12's got a new album coming out, and it's sounding pretty nice. I hung around after the show and assisted in loading out. Met some cool people in the process, and got to hear Jase's "That's what she said" button on his iPhone. Also got to see them blow their trailer tire back up after deflating it as either a defective tire or a crime prevention device. They appreciated the help, and hopefully I'll see them again in the coming months.

SPRING BREAK

Yeah, that's where I am now. Home. They chased me out after bumping the move-out time to 5, but made me stick around to take out the trash. I will try to leave earlier after having to carry out trash bags that weren't mine. I hung around the mall with Pinkie before finally heading back. I saw Corey when I pulled up to my street, and I do need to call him soon. I overslept Saturday in its entirety and didn't do much on Sunday either, except for going out to dinner with my family and Lucas and Larissa since they came up.

Monday, I hung out in Hazleton by myself, as usual. I went to GOS and ate a stromboli while watching Californians complain on television about their dying economy and how they had to give up their backyard pools, and I also went to the pet shop and saw a finch out of its cage. Interesting mentions also go to the drive up, when a snow plow was driving on the bridge to I-81, and plowed snow off of the bridge, sending a pile of snow cascading off the bridge and onto my car that was driving underneath it at the time. Some kind of scare there, and also on my way back when a Mack truck splashed dirty slush onto my windshield. Am I a good driver, or does everything just suck at trying to kill me?

Tuesday, I ventured to Stroudsburg with Perry and Deana. We had to wait until Deana was off of work, so nothing was open that late except for the Wal-mart out there, which led to aimless cavorting without really buying much. We stopped at a McDonald's on the way back and messed around there amongst masturbation jokes, box references, and stupid 911 calls on television. I drove them back after that with my then-questionable driving skills.

Wednesday, everything got canned. Fuck.

And that brings us to the present. I have things I need to do and people I need to see before I go back, but I have to sleep now if I want to accomplish any of that. Good night/morning.
