Yes, I am sure they are honeybees, not yellow jackets or hornets. No, I did not have to use my Epi-pen to prove it.
Update: According to the Metro Atlanta Beekeepers Association, this is a regular springtime swarm, not a hive. The mass is a big ball of bees wrapped around a queen perched on that tree limb. They are currently scouting for a home and will leave on their own in a day or so.
