Screw Direct TV anyhow. . . .

I am irked.

THe past couple of days I spent passed out on the couch in and out of sleep and fever, and missed tv for those times. I also miss being able to see Nova, graham norton, jon stewart, the other fun shows we used to see.  Well, direct tv emailed me a really good offer with monthly cost, package, DVR upgrade, and everything with no upfront fees like there were earilier in the year when I considered them.   It was finally enough to tip me over, I was all for it and ready to sign up, so I called.

All went smoothly until they said that I had to pay $200 deposit because of my "credit rating" unless I had someone else willing to sign up.  Screw that.

Turning on all my logical pursuasive debating charm I complained that that was too much in one sum. I discussed with a manager the problems and suggested alternatives, including a willingness to pay a deposit over several months bills, and willing to verify my income that I could do the monthly payments easily (which I could)

No go. they said the 200 dollar lump sum was  required and the manager didn't even vary from their script.

So I told them that their policy was obviously designed to prohibit  working or fixed income people from being able to afford their programming, and that their limitation was working in this case as it was prohibitive from being able to get the package at all.  He didn't really  say anything except hmm at that.

Yeah.

So then they said that I would get the money back in discounts on my bill each month, so it was "like  free".   I told them not everyone could afford that large lump sum as it took budget away from other needed expensives each month.  They continued on their spiel and I gave up and hung up.

So, direct TV: BITE ME.

I didn't want your stinkin' local channels or bbc america or PBS anyhow.

Hrumph.
